see, I don't think it's like... obligated to depict that, as a character drama. it's a shame that people hold it to standards of realism (whether or not they believe it meets them as a series that is preoccupied with creating a believable world), but I don't think it was striving to, for example, provide even a fictionalised teaching example of how people in the late middle ages and early modern period actually saw the world
