i still think that the “are we to be two immortals locked in an epic battle until judgement day and trumpet sound?” is like the quintessential sparbossa line and i can’t stop thinking about it since my latest rewatch. this has been said before but it bears repeating because holy shit it would have been less gay if they fucked on screen. “ohh do you hate me?? do you want to fight me? fight me FOREVER?? fight me forever? forever and ever and ever? for all eternity??” i can’t with them

#and it truly is what they do the entire series in different ways #I ignore POTC5 but I do think there's a little grief there Jack doesn't fully admit to in losing Barbossa again #because for a long time he always knew Barbossa was somewhere in the world doing something and now that rug has been pulled out again #and after all they've gone through they were finally to a point by 4 that they were more ok with that than ever #hell that was the narrative purpose of forcing them to stabilize Ponce de Leon's ship and working together instead of against each other #and now Jack has to find a way to be ok with him no longer being in the world. thus the consolation of being left with Jack the monkey #the monkey Barbossa treasured that he named after Jack himself after the mutiny. and now despite Jack and Jack's prior rivalry #Jack the monkey can provide the same emotional support. they were always important to each other under 20 layers of denial #and when I say denial I do mean DENIAL. Jack denying he killed Barbossa TO HIS FACE when they were in Davy Jones' Locker-#is how Jack processes err DOESN'T process anything he does. “just close your eyes and pretend it's all a bad dream. that's how I get by”#it was a quick look into his psyche. he could only be settled with Barbossa's death if he denied he ever caused it in the first place #and you can briefly see in COTB how much it took out of Jack when he actually pulled the trigger. he looks haunted and lost right after #< prev tags #you're so right...#“you shot me.” “no i didn't!” that scene is still funny as hell but after Jack tells Will how he deals with bad things happening...well...#that little “no i didn't!” really gains a new meaning...🥲🫠#(alright this evening i'm rewatching At World's End because I Can't With Them either)#pirates of the caribbean #jack sparrow #hector barbossa #sparbossa
