IN MATTERS OF JEON JUNGKOOK ☝🏽
Arrogance, is a word I keep seeing in my asks - followed by selfish, egotistical and fake - specifically in that order.
And it all involves Jungkook, and usually when I get those asks I just delete them, I send them out in the the void without sending good wishes.
And I’m not posting this to cause shit, because I really hope people can just take themselves out of the equation and think about my words, rather than what you’re feeling. And I know people mighty think they can’t do that, but surely they’ve read a book right?. When you read a book/story, you resonate with it because of the depiction the writer is giving, correct?. I think of peoples words here like that.
I read what they write, I try and see their pov and then compare it to facts or my own personal opinion and then decide what to do with said information, but first and foremost I remove myself from the equation, and that is what I hope people get when coming to my blog, just to see things from a different view, that’s all.
And the reason I mention that is because of the next few things I’m going to share, because really this isn’t a post to diss someone or to compare or to drag the members, it’s a matter of proving a different perspective.
I understand why people have been giving negative attention towards jk the last few days, but just because I understand it doesn’t mean I agree with it, we’re all entitled to our own opinions after all.
I think our biases can cloud our judgement at times, and because we devote, invest in someone we feel we can relate to, we tend to micro focus on them, and that’s not a bad thing per se, because we’re allowed to have people whom we admire and seek comfort from, I think, PERSONALLY, for me, if I don’t take a step back from situations and instead just respond in anger, then I’ve compromised my involvement and investment into said person.
And I’ve mentioned before that I don’t think BTS are perfect, but their imperfections don’t make them bad people, and so it hurts me to see people villainize them simply because they’re human. We make mistakes, we learn and move on.
And I’ve stated so many times that people are allowed to do that, to have a second chance to right their wrongs. The problem is that we learn from those mistakes in private, with our close friends and family as witnesses, BTS don’t have that luxury. And it is a luxury, as yoongi said in People “what’s ordinary to you is extraordinary to me, and what’s ordinary to me is extraordinary to you”. They are under the microscope of the world, and the world is ready to poke holes and tear into them if they don’t get what they want from the guys. Except people don’t owe anyone anything and people are too obtuse to understand that.
So when I see something that makes me tilt my head when it comes to BTS, I try and remind myself of that, that they’re in a position where everything they say and do is picked apart, reworded and then spread to support a negative pov that someone might have of them already. It’s the “AHA!” Moment I keep talking about.
The reason I brought this up is because I’ve been thinking about the words being hurled at Jungkook right now, and I think for me, people just take his words and twisted them, to support a pre-conceived perception they have of him already. Again, that’s just personally how I see it.
And as mentioned I’m not using the members against each other, I just want to provide contrast.
Think of it as “DOMAIN EXPANSION” from jujutsu Kaisen (btw my domain expansion would be fucking dope*)
So the guys are all talented, that’s an indisputable fact. But each and every one of them has an expertise in their field.
And in the past they’ve all shared their passions with us, and the things they want to accomplish and why they wanted to pursue music and entertainment as their profession.
Yoongi has openly stated that he wants to be the best producer, and he is, he’s expanded his portfolio and composition skills to the point where he is now sought out to produce songs and to collaborate in them. Do I think it’s arrogant that Yoongi called himself a genius or that he wants to the best of the best?. Fuck no, that man is talented AF, and he’s incredibly versatile.
Does me acknowledging that mean that I think hobi, and namjoon are terrible at producing?. Would saying that Namjoon is a lyrical poet mean that Yoongi and Hobi are lacking?. Would me saying Hobi is complex and has found the best way to incorporate hip hop and dance to a new level mean that he’s better than Yoongi and Namjoon?. Absolutely not
They’re all so talented, capable and musically gifted, and they thrive in their own environment because that is what they choose for themselves.
When Jimin has said he wants to be the best performer in the world, does that mean he looks down at his members?. Does that make him arrogant?. Does it mean he’s better than hobi?. Again, absolutely not, because their styles and focus is different because their wants are based on their individual goals and dreams.
And so I think about that when it comes to Jungkook. I took his words the same way I take everyone in BTS based on their passions. Jungkook said he wants to be the best of the best, the only one, that doesn’t mean that he wants to be better than the members, or that he thinks lowly of them, because that simply wouldn’t be true.
I know I said I’ve been working on Jungkook’s post for the last year, and I just want to get it right because there’s so many fucking weird narratives floating around about Jungkook.
Arrogance and selfishness is the most prevalent one, and I scoff, laugh, side eye people when they say that, especially when they’re speaking from a place of not really knowing Jungkook. Because he never tells us the things he’s done for the members, the vocal line are the ones to do so. The amount of times Jimin, Tae and Jin have told us how much Jungkook has helped them if they’re having issues with vocals or with certain tones, we’ve seen it in the documentaries, where he is giving the guys advice when they’re feeling down. He is the lead vocalist, and if he truly was selfish he would have kept what he learned to himself, but we’ve heard from Jimin that tae and Jungkook would let him join on their vocal lessons so that he could practice.
So I see everything going on and it makes me wonder why people automatically lean into these nefarious povs of jungkook when that’s not him.
He has said he can be greedy, with trying everything once, or in the way he’s “greedy” for Jimin’s time, but I personally feel like he’s too harsh on himself. I don’t see Jungkook as greedy for wanting to try new things, I think it’s admirable that he wants to learn and experience everything at least once, to take a risk. I don’t think he’s greedy with Jimin’s time, I see it as him wanting to be in his company because he truly enjoys it, and he’s also a Virgo, so there’s that lol.
Especially when it’s so refreshing to see him be this confident, to finally see his own worth and to not feel like he isn’t enough. He’s doubted himself for so long and now people want to crucify him for having the courage to finally see in himself what we’ve all seen for so long?.
I want Jungkook to try all of these different things, and I do want him to be an artists that succeeds in whatever he does, and it’s the same in the way I want Yoongi to be the best producer alive, and I want Jimin to be the best performer/artists to have ever graced us mere mortals.
And wanting those individual things doesn’t mean that I also don’t want any of the guys to succeed in whatever endeavor they want.
And I’ve always said, BTS don’t compete with each other, they’re there with each other until the end - there’s so much respect, love and admiration there that’s unbreakable. And it’s the reason I keep harping that if BTS were like any other group, or if they had let greed and individualism root it self very early on (like when Namjoon released his first mixtape) they wouldn’t be where they are today.
They inspire each other, they see what the other is doing and support them without hesitation.
Jungkook wanting to be the best doesn’t mean he wants to the be best from his members, it means that he wants to be the best in both the western and Korean industry, and that is incredibly inspiring.
Because we give western artist the room for them to say that…. That they want to be the best in the world, better than anyone else, and yet we never critique them by saying “oh so you think you’re better than Beyoncé?”…… shits weird.
It’s like that post I made a while back where I shared that tweet of someone saying “I love pancakes” and someone in the comments responded with “so you hate waffles”…… and it was like why would anyone make that assumption when no one even brought up waffles 😭.
If people are looking for someone to blame for the sabotage Jimin experienced, knocking on Jungkook’s door is the wrong place to start, the people that should be held accountable are from the western industry
And it perplexes me why people misplace their anger unto the members, when BTS have done nothing but support each other the whole way here, and the same can’t be said for the other people involved in their careers.
I see Jungkook and I see the members and just think about how much they accomplished, how much they have grown, and how they’re finally starting to see themselves the way we see them, especially when they’ve continuously wondered why we chose them, why not other artist, and the thing is BTS chose us, to receive their message - Whalien52; We heard each other and like kindred spirits or moths to a flame we gravitated towards each other.
I’m not trying to change someone’s mind or get them to believe the same things I believe, I just share my words and thoughts and feelings about BTS because I love them so much.
I think about Jimin’s words and how he inspires us to be good humans, and so what does that mean?. Does it mean going and bashing the people he loves and cares for?. Does it mean dragging the group he personally has fought for and dedicated to being the best of the best?. Does it mean sabotaging the people who have supported and loved him without an agenda (unlike his solos).
And I say this because Jimin is my bias, he got me into the group, it was because of him that I learned about the members and it was his love for them and the love they have for him that made me understand BTS as a whole.
No matter how hard people try to paint the guys negatively, Jimin being loyal to his team will always outweigh the narrative that antis, solos, mantis, and company apologists try to spread.
