now wait a damn minute. first lines of the story of bonnie and clyde are "you‘ve heard the story of jesse james/ of how he lived and died" and ends, as we all know, with bonnie accepting that they will die through the hands of the law someday soon.
but WHO killed jesse james?
and WHO betrayed bonnie and clyde?
like the poem is already a beautiful fictionalisation and construction of narrative from a normal point of view. but retroactively being aware of the similarities of the betrayal it just goes crazy. shes so firmly immortalising clyde (and herself) in the long line of romanticised and glorified outlaws
