Clipping Mask explained! Use a clipping mask if you have created a shape and you want to paint on it without going outside of the shape. The bottom layer needs to be your shape (make sure it’s not merged with a background color!), make a layer on top and set it to clipping mask to paint on the shape. You can make multiple layers on top and set them to clipping mask. Whatever you paint on them will only show up on your shape. Painting with digital watercolors in Procreate is just like working with real watercolors, just without the drying time 😉 It’s important to work from light to dark, so make sure you don’t paint over parts you want to keep light. The brush set I used is a custom set I made, it’ll launch in December in my store, but if you join as a Master Student at Patreon before Nov 25th, you’ll get it right away, for free ❤️ These are the steps I followed creating this piece (which was inspired by a photo I found on Pinterest) 1. First I used my watercolor sketch brush to make a rough sketch of the little store, on a layer beneath it, I started adding watercolor paint, these are big textured strokes. I made multiple layers and lowered their opacity. 2. I started coloring the different elements on a layer underneath the sketch layer, making a light glazing. I kept the colors light so I could slowly build them up. 3. Using smaller brushes I started adding details, not worrying too much about wobbly lines and little stains, these give the painting character. I still only worked from light to dark. 4. In the final stage I grabbed a fineliner brush to add some little light touches, like the text on the chalk board and some light flowers. I also added the little drop shadows near the board and plants for instance. . .
