Tweaking my Jaz design juuuust a bit more, at least in the context of a more canon-adjacent AU where abstraction can be reversed. Decided I wanted to see what Jaz would look like with post-abstraction marks/patterns, I've seen some really great takes from other artists since the finale aired and I wanted to throw my own hat into the ring.

Was definitely channeling Rumi from KPDH here, I liked the concept of her patterns (and hair) being iridescent, and the colors fluctuating depending on her mood/mental state. One one hand, they can become brighter/more saturated when she's happy/at peace. On the other hand...

We have:

- Mr. Broke into a weather station because they got the weather wrong and follows a strict schedule every day

- Mr. Takes everything too literally (The first half of Beast was just his autism diagnosis /hj)

- Mr. Hyperfixates too hard to the point of forgetting everything around him and gets overstimulated easily (and matches Ranpo’s freak)

- Ranpo Edogawa

- Mr. Deadpans so hard that even Dazai can’t read him and is the most straightforward man you could ever meet

- Mr. Very specific weird food combos, an obsession with justice and also deadpans everything

I used a gloss protective spray but idk how much I like it, might swap it for matte later

wait this is such a funny idea because in reality fukuzawa was throwing hands with some little ass girl instead of the “mafia boss” 😭😭😭

Idk how much of a tutorial u need, so I’m just gonna basically give everything I’ve done with it so far and u can use what u need lol

Quick forewarning- a lot of this was made going off of vibes, so I hope none of it’s too hard to follow cuz I might not be the best at describing it ‘-w-

The first thing I did was actually make templates for the sides [using taped together old papers from school-]

I think I threw the templates away, but to make them I laid on my side on the floor and traced the curve of my back, going around my shoulder aswell, then off of vibes just put about where I thought the top should be [which ended up being ~3.25in/8cm above my shoulder]

Then put a straight line from where I thought that top should be, and added the edge length, tapering a little towards the bottom, basically just following my reference of Donnie’s shell

[Idk if I did a good job explaining so here’s this lil step by step too, with the curve following your back ofc]

Then I traced the template on two pieces of cardboard and cut them out

To make a template for the back of the shell I used the height of the sides to determine the height of the shell, then based the width on my back, kinda just going off of vibes and making it look like Donnie’s shell, then folded it in half and cut it out while following the lines so it was even

I don’t have a pic of the template for the shell since I cut it up, but it was basically below right pic with the size below left pic [template I used for plastron], and cut out ofc-

Then I drew in the details for the shell till it look roughly like this [+roughly the measurements I used]

To get the different inner segments I sketched where I thought the main sections should be (about thirds of the inner area), then divided the tops and bottoms of each into thirds before connecting them

Then I made the main piece by just tracing the whole paper over some cardboard and cutting it out

To make the top and bottom of the shell I measured the length of the shell and sides at their tops and bottoms and made those panels

To attach the sides to the main piece I drew a line roughly through the middle of each side piece, then hot glued the main panel along those lines, also attaching the top and bottom, getting roughly this shape minus the front edge

To get the edge I cut it out from the template then taped it to a couple pieces of cardboard to cut out and tape together to get the edge in one piece

I then hot glued the edge on the top of the side pieces, and my method for getting the inner sides of the edge was really shabby and I’m sure there are more precise ways to do it, but I just put pieces of cardboard against the inner edge then cut them roughy to size and glued them in, but it did work ig lol

After finishing the edge I cut out the template pieces for the inner segments and glued them on cardboard to cut out

To make the sides of the inner segments I used a ruler to measure about how tall I wanted each, then measured each side of the segment, and I used one of those tape-type rulers to get the Lengths of the curved sides [still had the measures of the side pieces if u can use those at all v]

Thats about it for the base so far, as of right now it dosent have a way to hold onto me or the pieces that go over my shoulders [they were my original plan but ended up not wanting to work or fit properly], though Im gonna find a way to add the over the shoulder bits and belt next

Some tips I have is that if your using cardboard make sure to make the parts that should bend with the angle of cardboard that bend

And a good way to get rid of the cardboard edge is to use painters tape over them, which is something I learned pretty recently lol

It’s been pretty good! I started watching a new show over the weekend (rise of the teenage mutant ninja turtles) and that always makes me really happy lol. Also been working on some drawings for artfight
