               the sound of the gunshots           followed the whipping sound of a chain being pulled through a hookshot in the hollow air--     five bullets ,    disappearing in the deep ,    dark shadows of the rusting factory--     and they rang empty like the furrowed eyes of the man holding the gun .    empty ,      except for the unwavering determination in the way he held the firearm     ...     with no care if his shooting would cause the whole place to buckle and finally give in .    just as long as he could hit them ,    whatever they are ,    and the sordid noise will finally stop .
