anon made me think about this again and im gonna add some artists commentary because im annoying. anyway i sort of envision this as an established relationship thing. they have a baseline of like comfortability and familiarity with each other, but also they're greasers so they're trying to be tough together - it doesn't come across in b+w but dally has a gold cap on his canine because of course he does. anyway they quickly devolve into silliness because they're so comfortable with each other they can kinda feel how ridiculous their macho posturing is (even tho they like doing it). and then! they're just. intimate! like i wanted to get across a sort of - i'm gonna keep using the word familiarity but familiarity, they're not doing anything new with their tongue-kiss, like they can do it here in the photobooth because they do that sort of thing all the time, but it's goofy enough to not feel so vulnerable. but then the real intimacy (the kissing) is something dally, like, keeps close to his chest, that's theirs, he doesn't want other people to see it, so he covers it up.
