Ohio gothic
- the house three doors down has been foreclosed for years. you think you see a shadow but it’s just a stray cat. the back of your neck prickles when you turn away. - the taco bell on the edge of town has a special sauce. they don’t tell you what it is, but you ask for extra every time. they are hiring again. weren’t they just hiring last week? - you wear blue on a game day. people in scarlet and gray are everywhere. “O, H,” they chant. “I, O,” you reply. “O, H.” “I, O.” “O, H!” “I, O!” you can’t remember why your shirt isn’t red. - the mayflies are swarming. they come in clouds so big they cast shadows. you pull your shirt over your mouth to breathe. inside your house you cough and a wing lands in your palm. - the billboard by the shoreway reads “new lakefront condos! inquire within!” in shiny yellow paint. there hasn’t been a building there in years. - there’s broken bottles in the valley. there’s always been broken bottles in the valley. do not touch the broken bottles in the valley. - the four am train doesn’t wake you up anymore. the four am train slinks silently through the night. sometimes it stops. it waits. it starts again. the next morning you take the long walk to starbucks so you don’t have to step on the tracks. - the wind sounds like whispers in the cornfield. you start to sleep with headphones in but you can’t escape the breeze in the daytime. - the weatherman promises a balmy sixty degrees and sunny. when you look out the window, the sky is heavy and ice is forming on the sidewalk. the weatherman smiles. “sixty degrees.” - the church on the corner has been closed for fourteen years. every Sunday at noon you hear church bells. no one seems surprised. - the interstate is long and flat and you swear you’ve seen that farm stand before. the man in the hat holding the zucchini waves slowly. ten minutes later, you see him again. this time, you do not wave back.
Honestly this isn’t even a meme it’s just how Ohio is in real life
Honestly, I thought these were meant to be spooky Halloween themed writing prompts
I feel like it’s my duty to reblog everytime I come across this
This is wrong
This kind of makes me mad
Does this count as being Rick Rolled? Serious question.

honestly birthdays were so easy when i was younger like i just wanted toys and stuff like that but now? my parents r like “wht do u want” and im just like??? some self esteem?? emotional stability?? a hobby??Â
when we first got married i had to psych myself up every time to say “my wife” to a new person. it was awkward because with “girlfriend” a lot of people would just assume i meant “friend,” and of course “fiancée” is gender-neutral when spoken, so we’d always had plausible deniability. but the meaning of “wife” is pretty unavoidable. still, i made myself do it on principle, and slowly but surely it became natural.
now i love saying “my wife,” to everyone all the time. i love saying it to the old woman distributing the strawberries at the farm share, asking if she knows where i can still get rhubarb because every summer i make my wife a pie. i love saying it to the gay employee helping me at crate and barrel, telling him i’m buying these glasses because my wife and i both had them growing up, and seeing his eyes light up. i love saying it to friends of friends and to new acquaintances and to potential coworkers and to the women at the laundromat. i love being aggressively out, and i love having such an easy way to be aggressively out. i love being the first woman with a wife someone has ever met, making our existence part of their reality. i love being visible for other lgbt people who might feel a little less alone knowing i’m there, which helps me push past the fear when it comes. most of all, i love not hiding. i love saying “my wife” and i love my wife.

Fifty-five percent of bisexual employees are not out to anyone at work
From 2008 to 2012, only $5,000 in grants were awarded to bi-specific projects or bisexual organizations.

we’re here, we’re queer and we’re a lot more valid in our anger than you’d like to admit
Read this list before you say that biphobia is just homophobia one more fucking time.
18 years ago a man walked into a school in Dunblane, Scotland with four handguns and killed 16 students all under 6 years old, a teacher and then himself.
This led to a debate on gun control and in 1997 2 firearms amendment acts were passed making it illegal to own a handgun for personal use in the United Kingdom. We have had no shooting on a similar scale to this since.
6 weeks later in Australia was the massacre in Port Arthur when 35 people were killed and 23 wounded, which led to the imposing strict gun control. There have been no shootings on a similar scale to this since, either.
If I hear one more person tell me that there’s nothing that can be done in the US when there are massacres after massacre I will scream because it is so clear and people are pretending to be blind.

– This Was Never Supposed to Happen To You
i think……. we should cancel 2016
“I don’t care how many people died, no one is taking away my right to have guns.”
I’m done. I’m fucking done. I want out.
It never ceases to amaze me how the best days can become the worst so quickly.

Reblogging this again to add some pertinent links, because I couldn’t find one definitive roundup post. A note: Blood banks in Orlando are reporting that they are AT CAPACITY and urge people to make appointments to return in the coming days. Blood has a shelf life. Also, unfortunately, no FDA bans have been lifted, which means gay men are still restricted from donating. I agree, that’s horrible. The Washington Post has a large collection of links and information which is updating as news develops, including articles to send your racist relatives who insist this attack wasn’t homophobic in nature. It was.
Need to talk?
You can call The Trevor Project at (866) 488-7386. The Trans Lifeline in the US: (877) 565-8860 and Canada: (877) 330-6366. Scarleteen is open all day. You can text them at (206) 866-2279.
Want to donate?
Equality Florida has set up a GoFundMe for victims of the Pulse shooting. This is the best place to donate. You can donate to Orlando hospitals through the Orlando Health Foundation. The Orlando Youth Alliance provides services to LGBTQ+ youth. The Center is Orlando’s largest LGBTQ+ organization and is taking donations.
Remember, even the shooter’s father insists this was not based on religious beliefs or ideologies. Do not use this horrific incident as an excuse to attack Muslims. These were the actions of one person driven by hate. Don’t perpetuate that hate. The Medium has posted a guide to contacting your local representatives about gun control, which you should if you are able to.
Equality Florida has an updating list of links and information as well.
Terrorism against the LGBTQIA+ community-
The Pulse Nightclub Shooting has left 50+ dead, 53 injured.
This is the worst mass shooting, the deadliest massacre, in American history. This is the most amount of people killed at once on USA soil since the Twin Towers collapsed in 2001, the worst terrorist attack on America since 9/11.
And it was at a gay nightclub. During pride month. The shooter’s father says the gunfire started in direct reaction to the shooter seeing two men kissing.
Someone I love was at D.C. pride earlier today. They texted me last night, excited, telling me about how happy they were to attend. I woke up this morning to a notification that read, “Shooting during pride celebration.” There was no city listed. I felt my heart stop. When I saw the city was Orlando and not D.C., I cried, both from relief and from fear. This could’ve been my best friend. This could’ve been any of my best friends. This could’ve been my aunt and her wife. Or any of you. Or maybe even me. This could’ve happened at the Motorco in Durham, where I was just last month, for an LGBTQ-positive protest concert. This could’ve happened to me and my best friends on a night that was supposed to be a celebration of who we are and of who we love.
It could have been any of us. It could have been. It still could be.
So, please. Please. Stay safe.
The more i read the more i cry and i dont know what to do. This is breaking my heart into a million pieces
