you people erase your OWN history, erase historical trans men, actively want to take (already scarce) resources from dysphoric men who desperately need them, and then also have the goddamn gall to speak over trans men, and act like you have any right to speak on trans issues at all in the first place, just because "well lesbians have a complicated relationship with gender : /" or some shit. like yeah, join the fucking club. that's not what it's about.

Oh my god. It’s a mental condition, not just an identity. it requires therapy and medication to treat, aka, hormone therapy and surgery. Transitioning is literally the name, whether socially or physically. Most need it physically.

Keep it medicalized, you’re literally taking away resources for trans individuals who need it. Just because you don’t doesn’t mean no one else does.

I’ve posted this before but here goes.

Here in Denmark transsexualism has been removed from the list of mental disorders (nice job on that one Amnesty) and transgender individuals are having consultations about medically transitioning with doctors specializing in things like pedophilia or sexual disorders and let me tell you it does in no way, shape or form work.

Here are no such things as gender clinics, gender therapy, etc. Most transmen choose to leave the country to get top surgery because the alternative is to wait 5 or more years to be considered for the surgery here as a result of the government closing private facilities who offered it.

To get testosterone (legally, I know a few getting it illegally from friends in Germany) the doctors need to have a consultation with your parents even if you’re legally an adult, and their opinion on you being transgender can affect whether or not you’ll get a testosterone, you have to answers over 300 questions some even involving whether or not you think about your parents when you masturbate and other very personal and irrelevant information about how you masturbate, have sex, who you have sex with, how many people you have had sex with etc. Apart from all this, it can take over a year to finally be granted testosterone.

In Denmark, we have a law that reassures that people only have to wait a certain amount of time before getting treated in our health care system, but guess what THAT LAW DOSENT FUCKING APPLY TO TRANS PEOPLE BECAUSE IT LEGALLY ISNT AN ILLNESS. We wait years for treatment.

This is just a few examples from a place who don’t categorize it as a mental disorder, It’s so fucking humiliating to be transgender in the Danish healthcare system don’t let that happen to you.

Having it de-medicalized or recategorized fucking sucks. When do y’all start listening to us and stop this fight?

I identify as being asexual, but currently am in a same sex romantic relationship and I see your point. Personally I don't mingle a lot in the ace/aro community mainly because I don't feel like there's much to discuss there? I identify as asexual. I'm happy and comfortable with that label. I have a partner who understands and beyond that, I don't think it's anyone's business what I do or don't in the bedroom. cont/

if you need any reason that we are nowhere near the point to “de-medicalize being trans”, let this be it. i have had to wait 9 months on a waiting list to get these appointments, which i should have had three months ago. all of these are on the worst possible times and dates, but i have no other choice. there’s an extreme lack of any real services in the public system available to trans people here in melbourne (the apparent most livable city in the world). this is literally, pretty much all there is. i’ve had to use a completely fake name there aside from the legal matters, and even though i am nearly 18, even when i am 18 my chances of being able to get on testosterone or referred into any real therapy through these people is exceedingly slim. it’s through, what is essentially, a university study, and that is basically all there is. there’s LGBT groups, and youth groups, free psychs and the like avaliable through things like headspace, but none LGBT or gender dysphoria specific.

so, if you’re a minor, don’t have money, are very very closeted etc, your only option for dysphoria help in melbourne, the most livable city in the world, where there’s insane amounts of public resources for most other things, is a 6 (read: 9) month wait to see a doctor at a clinic at a university, and slim chances there even.

i know this is very likely better than other places have, but if this is one of the “best available options”, how the hell are we at a point where being transgender should be de-medicalized, let alone giving those scarce resources to people without any dysphoria?

All labels can be harmful, though. Due to internalised self-hatred of myself for being asexual, I spent five years trying to convince myself I was bi, force myself into sexual situations that were hugely damaging, and being basically suicidal. And yet I'm not sitting here going "bisexuality is a harmful label" because I recognise that the problem is not the label, it's the society which makes us feel broken and damaged for who we are. Your enemy is heteronormativity, not asexuals.

i never said asexuality was inherently harmful, what i said was it needs to be a looked at and criticized for “why am i thinking this way?” before coming to the conclusion that “yes, i am asexual” because you could be preventing yourself from healing.

also yeah, a lot of it is society. but your community (the ace community on tumblr), also perpetuates “””purity””” culture and constantly talks about how disgusting sex is, and makes consistent jokes about AIDs. it’s not helping.

plus, there’s no systematic oppression of ace people. you guys don’t get heckled in the street and shit for being ace. there may be corrective rapes etc. happening but i guarantee you the percentage of that is exceptionally small compared to eg. corrective rape against lesbians.

and heteronormativity isn’t my enemy either. mine is dysphoria, and internalized HOMOPHOBIA, which is caused, again, by dysphoria, and religious guilt. i’m not you.
