As for Blu-ray, there’s currently no plans to put it on Blu-ray, which is truly a shame because the show was 100% animated in HD. However, there are a couple of roadblocks on it. We would need the masters. Our tape masters (which were as pristine as they get) were only in SD (but very high-grade SD, they were masters after all). The other issue is it seems that IGPX was edited together in the Avid into SD. That applies to all 3 versions (I.G. Japanese and English, and Toonami). So we would have to get the original digital assets from Production I.G. and edit together the show from scratch, twice. Technically, we could just upscale the masters we have now, and put them on Blu-ray, but that would short change you (the audience) and frankly the show. There is an upscaled version available, but it’s only for [adult swim]’s use for broadcast or streaming.

As for the original pilot, that was not made in HD. We pulled from the best assets in the world to rebuild it. What’s on DVD now is the best it’ll ever look.
