Arc V Month Day 30: Post-Canon Thoughts
any time i have post-canon thoughts about any yugioh, they are ALWAYS in the context of not the actual canon, but of my own internal canon universe in which all yugioh series take place in the same timeline, so that’s the context to take these headcanons in
Yuya and Yuzu both begin to awaken to the same kinds of powers that Zarc and Ray had, and they help each other learn how to use them.
Reiji is the first person they confide in after each other when they start to realize their growing powers. Reiji then helps them learn how to control them by creating special Action Fields for them to practice, so they don’t have to worry about getting out of control
For a while the counterparts can only switch back and forth in control internally, meaning that the only thing that changes outwardly is their personality, and otherwise they look like Yuya or Yuzu. Later however, they learn how to completely swap, so that the other counterparts’ appearances come to the surface when they’re in control.
this later turns into an ability to temporarily separate into projected bodies, with varying levels of substantiality. They can do it for longer periods and more solid bodies the more they practice. Despite this, they are always connected, and if one of them gets hurt the others do too, and are capable of speaking telepathically to their group.
Furthermore, if they completely synch up, they can temporarily, to varying degrees of success, slip into Zarc and Ray’s original forms, memories, and thought patterns.
Reira begins to develop clear signs of having the same powers as Zarc from an incredibly early age; luckily by this point the counterparts have learned how to best use theirs, so they can help Reira learn to use them properly and without hurting themself.
Reira also has other powers that spurt out in bursts every now and then, coming out in flurries of natural powers like bursts of wind or flowers blooming when they grab them, or even making temporary portals from one dimension to the next.
it’s like caring for Jack-Jack honestly. Reiji is Tired.
Things are very tense in the Akaba household, as no one really knows what to do with Leo or if they can even properly prosecute him for what he did. Eventually Leo fucks off to where no one can find him and no one wants to.
Reiji continues to run LDS even though he secretly hates doing it, because he can’t find anyone he trusts enough to dump so much powerful tech into their lap.
Himika’s sudden care for Reira was actually rewritten into her by Reira as a defense mechanism for when they came back as a baby after they rewrote the universe, but it unfortunately starts to break down after a while and while Himika doesn’t hate Reira and does feel at least sort of guilty for what she did to them, she’s still clearly not proper mother material for them. Reiji eventually gets so stressed and nervous that he moves out, leaving his parents to do whatever the hell they want as long as they stay out of his life now.
Reiji buys a house in the same neighborhood as Yuya and Yoko, but ends up crashing at the Sakaki place more often than not because he often needs help caring for Reira
Yoko is the best godmama to Reira ever.
LDS helps with a lot of the funding and materials for the restoration of Heartland, and Reiji uses a lot of lobbying money to help support proper governmental diplomacy between the now connected dimensions.
Now that there are permanent portals between dimensions, there needs to be some kind of regulation. Reiji acts very quickly to make sure the portals stay out of corporate hands, with help from Crow and Shinji in Synchro.
Reiji also helps fund deprogramming and therapy for the students of Academia.
This kid is pretty much running himself ragged raising Reira and trying to mitigate the fallout of everything that’s happened. He feels responsible even though everyone tells him he really isn’t, at least, not just him.
Speaking of Synchro, after the Council stepped down, the only thing that really prevented the power vacuum from eating the city alive after the Lancers left was the alliance between Jack, Crow, and Shinji. With some work and the help of all of the allies they all made, including support from the other dimensions, XYZ formed a new, democratic council with rotating delegates. All Commons people were finally granted full citizenship. There’s still a debate about whether or not to disband Security, which will likely take a while. Not everything’s perfect, but they’re trying.
Dennis stays in XYZ and never, ever returns to Academia. He meets Shun and Ruri’s parents during the restoration and gets really broken up about how he was responsible for their losing Ruri. To his surprise and Shun’s immense chagrin, he sort of ends up getting unofficially adopted by Shun and Ruri’s parents, who don’t blame him for what happened since he’s a broken up kid and are like “ok time to Protect”
Asuka stays on at Academia for a while to help with therapy. Yusho also finds himself there quite a bit to assist.
Sora moves in with Yoko and Yuya – he intended to try and slip off but Yoko snatched him and told him in no uncertain terms that he was going to stay with them. He cried a lot.
You Show school is practically overflowing with students who want to join now, and Shuzo ends up having to hire a bunch more teachers and is able to expand the school. Yuzu works as a teacher for a while before Shuzo encourages her to pursue whatever dreams she really wants to. She joins the pro dueling circuits with Yuya, where they start really wowing the crowds when they all do their counterpart-switching schtick as part of their Entertainment acts
