Careful Where Ye Tread

A noise escaped him, and bits of goop dripped on the floor. 

Well, this was good to know. Still, he couldn’t quite agree. “They may not ‘need’ education. But we both know they will be smart. The way I see it, it would be a waste not to let them use that mind for something.“

He shook his head. “At least, its worth considering trying to use education as an additional lock to their cage.  Let them witness an experiment in where the subject fails to escape. Let them learn that as subjects themselves-they’ll too, never be able to escape. Or let them learn things like math, or history. Reciting meaningless formulas for hours-would certainly keep them from trying to wriggle out of their cages. A distraction, really…” A breath. The other-well, he probably wouldn’t like any of this. Part of his soul feared the inevitable attack. “I…simply think that it’s something not worth ignoring outright.  Even if it’s only being given an education on military strategy. Or obedience training. “ 

And just in the blink of an eye a large vicious looking dagger-like claws raked the area next to Corrupt’s head. A terrifying large gash was seen, but what could be considerably worse was the fact that the hole was becoming larger at a rapid pace.

Large predator teeth appeared in Aster’s mouth dripping a deep violet goo. “dO yOU TAke mE FoR a FOoL?!” Aster shrieked in rage. His eyes black and his head glitching to make it appear as though it was twitching.

 The other shuttered. The name-the name was new to him. At least, he had never met anyone it might belong too. It wasn’t his place to ask, and it certainly wasn’t his place to try and assume. 

His eyes gleamed with interest. “…maybe. But-well, thats dipping into magic I’ve never learned. I’m more worried about the supplies, and what kind of education these kids might have. Scientists as we are–well, there are certainly gaps in my knowledge. “

Aster chuckled an eerie hissing chuckle. It soon became a roaring laugh as the crazed fragment turned towards the goo Gaster. “Pray tell me Corrupt.... what sort of education do guard dogs need? What education to experiments need? They need nothing.” 

Aster’s eye lights flickered wildly as ichor ran out of his crooked grinning mouth, down his chin and to the floor below.

One of the subjects squirmed a bit as the serum started it’s effects, but aster was soon there and gently stroked their head. “Sshh... it’s alright.... you’re fine.” The subject calmed a bit and grabbed Aster’s hand with it’s own and held it.

Aster’s eyes narrowed, but for now he would allow it. It wasn’t that the subject didn’t need some comfort. Aster simply hated to be touched.

Looking over to the other subject Aster noted that it remained silent as if trying to prove that it was strong and didn’t need comforting. Or perhaps it wanted to be strong for the whimpering one. Either way it was silent and sleeping peacefully. 

Indeed he looked over the instruments Corrupt had brought. With a flip of his head he signaled the other fragment to begin his work.

Corrupt wasn’t about to hide himself. But the truth was, he knew he couldn’t. He was a fairly slow, globular creature. Trying to hide was the same as the sun trying to be dark. Just something that couldn’t happen. 

He stepped into the shadows of the lab, bowing his head quickly. “Hello, Aster. Are your subjects doing well?” they were probably alive. He doubted they were healthy-but they were probably still alive. 

“They’re alive... for now.” Aster answered cooly.

“But their time is short and we need to head onto the next phase. So did you bring your supplies to turn them?” The sharp toothed fragment asked the blob. Asters patience was running thin now. His subjects... soon to be guard dogs needed to be turned or they would turn to dust.
