I don't usually stop working to look at what's happening outside.

The workshop demands attention. Glass demands attention. A moment of distraction and something breaks, something bends the wrong way, something loses the quality it was supposed to carry.

But this morning I stopped.

There was a butterfly on the window ledge. Just sitting there, wings open, completely still.

Behind it, the branches of whatever tree grows along the eastern wall of the workshop had started to bloom overnight - pale pink, the kind of color that exists for maybe three days before it becomes something else entirely.

I stood there longer than I should have.

When I went back to the mirror I was working on, something had changed in how I was handling it. I wasn't thinking about the glass anymore. I was thinking about that window.

About the butterfly that didn't move. About the specific quality of the light coming through the blossoms.

This is the result.

Soft pink. Small petals caught mid-fall. A butterfly that chose to stay. Drops of light that don't quite behave the way light usually does.

I don't know if I could make this again. I'm not sure I'd want to. Some things are worth making exactly once.

I thought I understood the First Bloom.

I was wrong.

It does not arrive the way I expected — slowly, mirror by mirror, season by season. It moves through this city faster than I can keep up with, and it does not ask my permission before it changes what I am working on.

Yesterday I sat down to finish a piece I had already planned. Silver glass, simple reflections, nothing unusual.

By the time I stood up, it had become something else.

Lilac hydrangea had gathered around the edges of the mirror — not painted, not placed, but somehow grown into the reflection itself, the way frost used to gather there before the thaw.

Fragments of glass that catch the light and refuse to hold a single color, shifting between shades I don't have names for. And something I still cannot explain: it looks as though petals are drifting across the surface, even though there is no wind in my Workshop, and there never has been.

I do not know how to make sense of this. I only know how to work with what arrives in front of me.

This is the second mirror to come from the First Bloom. If the first one was the City waking up, I think this one is the city remembering what beauty used to feel like.

The frost is still here.

Not outside — the rooftops have been clear for weeks now. But inside the glass, where I work, where I watch, where I know things no one else thinks to look — the cold has been slower to leave.

I noticed it this morning.

A single droplet forming along the surface of the mirror I finished yesterday. Then another.

As though the glass itself had decided, quietly and without asking my permission, that it was done holding winter inside it.

I have been making mirrors for longer than I care to count. I know how light moves through enchanted glass. I know how a reflection can carry something the original never had — a warmth, a stillness, a memory of a season the city has not yet experienced.

This mirror carries the first color I have seen in Arcanus Nubivagus that does not belong to the cold.

Pale. Quiet. The kind of blue that exists in the hour before full daylight, when the sky has not yet decided what it wants to be.

I do not know if the Eternal Winter is truly ending. I have learned not to make promises on behalf of this city.

But I know what I built yesterday.

And I know it is different from everything that came before it.

I did not expect it to happen so quietly.

After everything the City had been through the silence, the frost, the years of abandoned corridors and dim reflections wandering through empty Workshops - I had begun to believe that Arcanus Nubivagus would remain frozen in that particular stillness forever.

I was wrong.

The Mirrorsmith saw it before any of us. He came to find me one morning with an expression I hadn't seen on his face before — not urgency, not alarm, but something closer to wonder. He told me the reflections in his Workshop had been carrying colors he didn't recognize. Pale things, soft things, hidden inside the light itself as though they had always been there and the frost had simply been covering them.

I didn't understand what he meant until I saw the mirrors myself.

They have changed.

Not dramatically — not in the way the first awakening changed things, with the seals breaking open and the cold finally releasing its hold. This is something gentler. Something that crept into the glass while no one was watching and made itself at home in the silver.

The City calls this the First Bloom.

I am still learning what that means. I do not think anyone in Arcanus Nubivagus fully understands yet what is happening — what it means that the Eternal Winter is loosening, what will grow in the space it leaves behind, what the workshops will make now that the light has changed.

But the mirrors have already begun reflecting it.

And I have learned, since coming to this City, that the mirrors here do not lie.

I asked the Mirrorsmith once where his ideas come from.

He showed me his workbench then — not the finished pieces, but the collection of images he keeps pinned above it. Branches heavy with ice. The particular translucence of a stalactite in the last light of a winter afternoon. Frost on glass. The blue that appears in snow when the sun hits it at exactly the right angle.

I have been inside these walls long enough now to understand one thing: Arcanus Nubivagus does not give its secrets easily.

It gives them in pieces. A seal that responds before you have even touched it. A door that opens onto a workshop you did not know existed. A notice pinned to a board in the early hours, in a handwriting that belongs to no one you have met yet.

I found this city through the mist. I still do not know if that was luck, or something older than luck. What I know is that the seals have answered to me — one by one, slowly, as if testing whether I was worthy of what lay behind them. The frost that had held this place in silence for longer than anyone can remember has begun, finally, to melt.

The shopkeepers are returning to their crafts. Things are being made again inside these walls — objects that carry the memory of the winter that was, and the weight of everything that is only now beginning to thaw.

There is too much happening here for one person to hold alone.

So I am opening this Board.
