i wonder if kya and hakoda ever thought that katara might have been the avatar. the southern raiders hunted all the southern water benders for a reason, because the avatar was supposed to be born into the water tribes next. idk just a thought

Oh.... this is actually a really good point. It wasn’t really clear what happened to the Avatar right? Nobody knew if he died or not, only that he disappeared! It explains the myriad of Fire Nation raids on the Southern Water Tribe. They weren’t really interested in occupying the land, but taking away all benders. Because like you said, if the Avatar had died, he or she would be born as a waterbender and they couldn’t take any risks. The Water Tribe must have known this too! So Kya and Hakoda might indeed have wondered whether their daughter was the Avatar...
