Biography:
Anya was born in Winter town as the only daughter of Alden Snow, a dutiful blacksmith who served the Starks for years in Winterfell. Just like her father, born out of wedlock, Anya had to bear the name Snow. Her mother, a healer, died on the very day Anya was born due to complications at the time of childbirth. And so the girl came into the world as her mother left it, and she was raised by Alden alone.
As the majority of bastards in Westeros, Anya was oftentimes shunned, even more so because she was a lowborn with no power to counteract her bastardy or any possibility of legitimization. Since her infancy she became a diligent worker, learning the meaning of hard work and the fulfillment that comes from it. Anya worked as her fatherâs apprentice at Winter Townâs smithy since she was a girl of two and ten, gradually becoming very skilled in the trade. During the Dance of the Dragons, Anya and her father worked at the camps of the Blacksâ soldiers, sharpening and readying their weaponry for battle. It was then that Anya became accustomed to travelling for work rather than always remaining in the North, even well past the end of the war. The quality of her craft earned her some renown, and over the past couple of years, her work has led her to establish connections in the Vale, the Crownlands and the Reach.
It was in the year 141 AC that Yuan Jinhai, a legitimate son of the YiTish merchant who fathered Alden Snow, made his way to the North to reconnect with the lost sibling his late father left behind. Learning from Jinhai of their fatherâs intent to legitimize Alden, the old blacksmith took the Yuan name then, and in turn, so did Anya. A link to the land of their ancestors was established, with Alden journeying to the Golden Empire to reconnect with the family he never knew they had across the Narrow Sea. Since then, Anya began to endeavor in the learning of the YiTish culture and language, wishing to connect with that part of her heritage.Â
Embracing her links to a powerful merchant family in the region of Wan, King Owen Stark formally legitimized her as Yuan Anya and granted her a position within the Northâs court as the head of the Merchantâs Guild in his kingdom. Queen Rosalyn had the title of lady given to her, and made her one of her ladies-in-waiting. Since such massive changes took place in her life, Anya has been working on the development of trade routes for the kingdom and has more closely supported the vision of the king for a greater North.
