I'm glad to se that the majority of respondents (thus far) agree with me that the world started a massively downward spiral around the same time.

How cool is this? NECA is doing a run of movie poster-based figures. I had to get this one when I saw it.
Why should I have to prove to a legal entity that I am not the person who received a ticket in a different state? Shouldn't the burden of proof of identity be on them?
I received a letter in the mail some time ago that said I received a ticket in a different state, missed a court appearance, and was responsible for some fine. I initially wrote this off as a scam, but after receiving another letter a couple of weeks later I did some due diligence searching and found out these are legit letters. The law firm had been hired by several states to issue letters to folks like the person for whom I have been mistaken.
I called the law firm and after a lengthy conversation, they said they were going to remove me from their list and I wouldn't receive any further communications from them. That turned out to be a lie as I received a notice that I would be issued a bench warrant if I didn't respond.
So, I called the city municipal court and after a lengthy conversation, I had to download a form to prove my identity, get it notarized, and mail it as a certified letter.
I can't imagine the problems other folks go through for significant infractions and mistaken identities.
To add a little more context, my first and last name are fairly common first names, but also fairly common last names. In any bureaucratic environment I've encountered, my names have often been transposed. This sometimes leads to me getting information or requests for someone who is named with my name transposed. This is the first time I've had a legal issue with it, though.

Logically, my brain understands that looking back on a photo like this is the same time difference as when we were in the 90s and looked back on photos from 60s, but at the same time I don't understand it because to me it still feels like the 90s were only like 10 years ago.
It's wild to me that we don't have specific descriptive words for different kinds of tone (in English anyway). I mean, rather than relying on metaphor, timbre-specific words.
And even in non-English languages, I'm not sure they get at what I'm trying to get at. There are a lot of words for "light" and "dark" tones, or "clear" and "muddy." But they don't quite get at it when I describe a guitar tone as *round* or *full.* I think most people understand what I'm saying when I say that, but here's an example of what I would consider a very *round* tone:
If I was dialing in the guitar tone to my personal preferences, I would look for something *crisper* and more *cutting.*
Perhaps all of these descriptors are a shades of "light" and "dark" and "clear" and "muddy," but it feels like there's more nuance to it than that. Given the above instruction, a sound guy might just up my treble and/or presence and that's not entirely what I mean when I say I want a "crisper" tone.
And then there are terms we use for describing a guitar tone like "woody."
And don't get me started on all the terms we use for different kind of distortion and overdrive.

Accidentally acquired myself a sugar mommy except she also doesn’t have any money so she just goes and steals stuff for me. Feeling very loved.
Living your best life.
Yeah, my girl, she's one too. She'll go and get her a skirt. Stick it under her shirt. She grabbed a razor for me. And she did it just like that. When she wants something, Man, she don't want to pay for it.

Man. This is a gut punch.
Has either of your parents ever accidentally called you/your siblings the wrong name? (someone else's name, like other sibling, pet, etc)
Yes, at least once
No, but I've seen it happen to someone else
No, never
I don't have pets/siblings/parents/hair
I forgot to clarify that this excludes deanaming you if you've changed your name. I specifically meant the "brain offers the wrong word" kind of accidental name mix-up.
This was prompted by me and my boyfriend discussing handedness and being able to tell apart left and right. And me, being ambidextrous, was baffled by how do people with an obligate dominant hand mix up which side is the one with their Writing Hand and which one isn't?? And my boyfriend pointed out that I go "turn left - no I mean right" so much when giving directions that I have lost my navigator privileges.
I argued that mixing up the words isn't the same thing as mixing up the directions. Like if your mom accidentally called you the dog's name doesn't mean that she literally can't tell you apart from the dog. And he looked at me like this
Because evidently not only has this never happened to him, he has never heard of this being a thing. And he was so confident in this that I had to double-check that I'm not the only person this has ever happened to.
I have four siblings. My parents have both gone at least once through the whole rooster before getting the right name
i know i just said something hilarious if my mom exasperatedly calls me my dad's name
I've definitely called my daughters by one another's names during their childhood. I've called my pets my son's name. I've called my pets by other pet names.
reblog this and tell me your favorite album written and performed by a woman?
I think this is a pretty optimistic take.
My work philosophy is similar to that of Star Trek's Mr. Scott. Be very good at your job and complete work quickly. But, don't let your bosses know how quickly you can complete something. Turn a project in earlier than the norm, just not as early as you are capable of doing.
