An idea strikes him. It’s more a feeling, really, a spark that fast consumes. “I can fix this,” he says. He weighs the heavy promise on his tongue. Keith never makes promises. Even Shiro only stuck around cause he could tolerate Keith breaking his word. But promising Lance feels different. Promising Lance feels good. OR Four times Keith fixes Lance’s mistakes, and the one time he can’t.

Lance McClain, experienced spy for the elite Voltron agency, takes an undercover mission to infiltrate a party hosted by the powerful Galra crime family. Posing as a musician, he runs into Keith, a waiter, and immediately hits on him. Unfortunately for Lance, Keith is not a waiter. He's also a spy, running a parallel covert mission for the secretive Blade of Marmora agency. As the night continues, the two men banter, flirt, and discover one another's plans. While they resolve to stay out of each other's way, they physically cannot, and end up colliding as they try to execute their individual missions. Leaving the scene in a hurry, they are forced into a partnership by their parent agencies, who decide their common goals may lead to a beautiful alliance.

It's definitely not Lance's top pick. Its unpolishedness aside, it's one of the sadder songs he wrote, filled with vulnerability and insecurity. On the surface, though, it just sounds like a typical heartbreak song, and Lance is lucky Keith isn't reading between the lines. (If he did, he'd find his own shadow rooted in the pages, haunting every lyric.) Or, rising indie band VOLTRON have been asked to collaborate with solo artist Keith on a new song. Lance would be perfectly fine with this if Keith wasn’t their band’s ex-lead singer.
