Its really a combo of two of my favorite things- lighthouses and klance during their awkward BoM era. They need to be stuck in closed quarters together for a long period of time and be weird about each other. Most of which, sadly, is traveling back to the Castle and not in the lighthouse itself. But! There is a good week or so they're with Wickie while they fix up the lion
HONESTLY even if you threw me like a 5k words ramble id read it all. it sounds so fun im interested in anything and everything? like the world building where there are now these neutral lighthouses, perhaps instances where the lighthouses werent neutral and helped the war efforts, how wickie came to be, what an average day looks like for them, how klance ended up there and what they were up to in the lighthouse, honestly its all v interesting to me!!
Okay yeah! I honestly kinda forgot what i have talked about vs whats only in the brain (or in a random notebook) so having a jumping off point is very helpful
For the Wickies at large and their neutrality, it goes back a few thousand years. Wickies are long life species and could live from a few hundred to two or three thousand years old. The Empire came in contact with them a bit after the war started. Since Wickies are a light keepers, they want to keep their lighthouses in good shape and help those they can. In order to keep on doing this with the Empires tendancy to destroy, they struck a deal that they would mostly be left alone in exchange for the occasional report on who got activity where along with general info about the visit/crash. Basically helping the empire keep track of the outskirts of the universe. I think Wickies generally think of themselves to be varying levels of neutral parties during this war, since they help anyone in need of a Lighthouse, but they are all technically active snitches for the Empire. Information is passed between the wickies at a near-weekly basis as they have a mass update call.
Keith got to the lighthouse during a BoM mission gone wrong. He ended up drifting in space in the remaining scraps of the ship/pod, and Wickie happened to find him just in time. His uniform was torn and he was badly injured, but Wickie helped patch him up (and gave him the new awesome hawaiian shirt). Even though the BoM is (was? I think they went public during the Big Fight of s3-4 but i forget the actual timeline) a secret rebel organization, Keith himself has little reminance of being a member on his person. Wickie is allowing him to stay (as an assistant keeper) until someone comes by with a working ship for long distance travel. Most light stations (unfortunately including the one keith ended up at) only have a small pod for short-distance space travel in order to help those who have crashed nearby, make repairs on the exterior, etc. There is a big supply ship that comes by every so often, but since the light stations are mostly self-sustaining it is infrequent.
Lance got to the lighthouse by chance through a classic freak-wormhole-accident that left his lion powerless. Wickie is willing to help him (and Keith, who is now able to leave as soon as the lion starts working again) and is also going to keep Lances arrival a secret. Probably the most pro-resistance any Wickie has gotten- hiding a paladin of Voltron (or two, depending on how you're counting) when youre technically Employed Empire Snitches. He cannot even tell the other Wickies as some of them would consider this a risk to keeping their lighthouses safe and would quickly tell the Empire.
For the day-to-day acticities on the lighthouse after all three of them arrive, it is a lot of Wickie doing the typical keeper activities, of which Keith does a few too. He has been the temporary Assistant Keeper for a while. But his main focus is now to work with Lance to get the lion operational. So the activities are basically eat, sleep, work on the lion, keeper responsibilities, repeat. The goal is, once operational, to take the lion somewhere safe and call the Castle for pickup so Wickie doesnt get in trouble. (But what would happen if they couldnt get the coms to work? A really long close proximity trip between klance during their strained not-breakup? That would be crazy)
