Epilogue to five

"Help me.”

The moment that request leaves Keith’s lips, it forces a hard reset. Lance has been running on fumes, but help me is the hand that douses him in gasoline and strikes a match.

Standing in the muggy courtyard on Xallix, Keith gasps out, “I can’t fucking breathe,” and it’s the first lungful of air Lance has tasted in weeks.

It’s the kill switch followed by the power surge. In a phoenix-level resurgence, Lance does something good. He makes Keith feel good. He doesn’t really think—at least looking back, he can’t remember thinking—just acts mechanically to enact whatever Keith wants. Unclasp the armour cause Keith’s tearing at it like it’s suffocating him, peel down his flight suit cause sweat pours from Keith’s brow, cause his burnt hands claw weakly for a zipper he can’t clasp, cause he’s in full fucking meltdown.

And once Keith’s breathing half normal again, once he’s slumped against the wall, shoulders heaving, tears invading the sweat that glistens on his skin—once he’s all that he croaks out, “What else is there?”

What else is there aside from pain? And Lance…actually knows the answer to that. He could answer it verbally, and Keith would probably rebuff or ignore him—asshole—but he’s been given the green light to help, and with that in hand he just sort of tries to, well, help.

Such an excellent question! my number 1 answer (which is really boring) is that lack of free time dictates that I do not get a lot of time to read :(

conflict!!! ALL love and respect to every cosy, peaceful, etc etc fic out there but I actually need as much violence and conflict as one can insert into a piece of writing. this is a personal preference obviously. these are all personal preferences
