Chloe drives them to their lead at one of the banks downtown. Lucifer is talking on and on about⌠something she honestly couldnât be bothered to listen to. Half the words heâs saying are Biblical metaphors she canât understand anyway. She has a plan for how to handle their interrogation, but she also knows Lucifer well enough to expect him to completely screw it up.
âWhat floor are we headed to?â he asks, having stepped into the elevator before her.
He reaches out to the panel and thinks for a moment. Why is he thinkiâ?
âDonât do it,â she pleads.
He presses all the buttons anyway. She glares at him.
âWhat are you, five?â she groans.
Chloe gets off on the second floor. Taking the stairs would be faster, at this point. She thinks she hears him call out her job title as she does, but she doesnât really care whether heâs following behind or not. Really, was it too much to ask for one case where he acts like a normal human being? No Devil metaphors, no weirdness, no toddler activitiesâŚ
By the tenth floor, sheâs rethinking her life choices. No mystery is worthâ
âDetective,â a voice booms from behind her.
She nearly trips over the next step.
âWhat is wrong with you?â she asks Lucifer.
He ignores her annoyance. âAre you really going to walk up all these stairs?â
âInstead of waiting at every floor? Yeah. Yeah, I am,â she says.
Itâs only five more flights anyway.
âYou do know thereâs another elevator on the other side of the building, right?â he asks.
She could seriously shoot him right now.
âAre you messing with me?â she asks.
âWhen I pressed all the buttons in the other elevator, yes. Right now? No,â he says, ever so honest.
He leads her to a different elevator, this time only pressing the â20â button. She thanks him by not punching him in the face. They get to the fifteenth floor before the elevator randomly stops functioning. Chloe looks over to him slowly to make sure this isnât some ridiculous prank.
âThis isnât my doing, I promise,â he tells her.
Are you serious? she asks the universe, glaring up. Chloe presses the call button on the elevator.
âThis is oddly good timing for our suspect,â Lucifer says passively, as they wait for maintenance to connect.
âYouâre right,â she mumbles. âAnd thereâs usually no service in elevatorsâŚâ
She tries Dan anyway. Thankfully, it goes through.
âDan, weâre stuck in an elevator. Send backup,â she says, saving words in case it randomly cuts out.
âWait, what? Why?â Dan asks over the phone.
âWe think our suspect knows we were coming,â she says.
Lucifer heads towards the elevator doors.
âI gotta go,â she mumbles. âLucifer donât pry those open.â
âWhy not?â he asks, still getting ready to not listen to her.
âUnless you wanna fall to your death, thatâs not a good idea!â
