Reese spent a lot of time sitting with regret— both in Hell and while he was alive. He regretted being a bad husband to Linda, being so selfish every time. If he could prove to her he’s the one for her, he could change to be the man she deserves, maybe then they could be together again. He’s talked this through with Lucifer lots of times, both in his Hell Loop and out of it (on the couch that looks disturbingly like the one in his ex-wife’s office). Still, nothing ever seems to change for him.

Strangely, it’s not until he sees Lucifer with Detective Decker again that he finally realizes. It finally sinks in, what Lucifer had been saying this entire time.

Love can’t be forced.

Linda doesn’t love him, not in the way he wanted. But she doesn’t owe him that.

Reese wakes up from a coma and the nurse tells him it’s a miracle. He almost asks if his wife has come to visit, before he remembers their separation. He amends it to “ex-wife”. He still can’t help but go to her house. This time, he doesn’t drop the bouquet in surprise.

He knocks.

She allows him in.

Reese signs the divorce papers with no stipulations, and they both get closure.

Light floods his vision.

Penelope has watched her daughter fall in and out of love over the years, but what she has with Lucifer is different. Even when Chloe claimed not to be interested in Lucifer, there was always this… lingering something. A hesitance. Sure, Penelope tried hard to get Chloe and Dan back together. Even mothers can be wrong, y’know? She just saw what growing up without John did to Chloe, and didn’t want Trixie to grow up that way.

But it seems Dan and Chloe were better off friends.

Now, six years from a disastrous family dinner, she’s going to brunch at one of Lucifer’s mansions. Now, Penelope knows there are much more important things than money but, boy, if that isn’t a major bonus! And the man can cook. But it’s not Lucifer’s skills that really make him a good match for her daughter. It’s that look in his eyes. The one saying he’d do anything for her.

The look John always gave her.

“I’m happy for you,” she tells Chloe when they’re away from other guests.

“Thanks, Mom,” Chloe says, a genuine smile on her face.

It’s been a while since Penelope has seen it.

“Remember when Lucifer set me up with Godfrey?” she says.

“I wish I didn’t,” Chloe shudders. “Uh, about that, though…”

There are few things Jana likes more than traveling. Seeing the world, all it has to offer, different cultures— the art, the fashion, the food— has always been her favorite thing to do. She greets passengers, make sure their bags are properly put away, hands them their drinks, and sees the sights during rare layovers. The only thing that really changes is the passengers. Her favorites are the CEOs, especially women in pantsuits. She likes flirting with them. There are no stakes in her line of work. Those going on vacation, she’ll never see again. The regulars? Too busy traveling to wanna settle down.

She met Lucifer at his nightclub when she had a layover, the need to see L.A. winning over the urge to succumb to exhaustion of her five hour flight. Jana remembers him calling her bold, in disbelief one sentence could make her feel important.

Jana pays him a visit every time she lands in L.A. He’s fun, no-strings-attached, and always up for something new. She gets a ride straight from the airport to Lux, knowing Lucifer isn’t immune to the usual flight attendant fantasy all men have. He also doesn’t mind her red lipstick transferring.

Remiel has come to realize Michael is worse than Lucifer ever could be— which is saying something. The more she learns of his plan to gain the throne, the more she is convinced he doesn’t deserve it. She may not like Lucifer very much, and he may be a disgrace to all things celestial, but Michael had crossed a line manipulating Father the way he had. As much as she loathes to admit it, Lucifer has changed. He has become more tame, even if he hasn’t let go of this ridiculous fascination with humans.

He had even influenced Amenadiel to have a child with one.

She supposes there are weaker humans than the one Lucifer has chosen to be with. Either way, she has decided to give Lucifer her support, whatever that is worth.

Remiel may despise humans, but she doesn’t like the idea of Michael toying with them to get what we wants. She cannot believe he would let Azrael’s blade reach the hands of humans— when Mom had done so, it was bad enough. But it was Mom; none of them could do anything about it. Remiel certainly will do something about this.

People are complex. John never saw anyone as simply good nor simply bad. People made choices, and those choices were influenced by circumstances. He did believe in right and wrong, and he did his best to instill what he believed to be good values in his daughter. He trusts Chloe’s instincts; he wishes she’d trust them, too.

John is so proud of the woman she’s become— of the detective she’s become. She’s fierce, determined, and… a lot like him, actually. If he weren’t in Heaven, maybe he’d be afraid for the life she’s chosen. But there’s no place for fear here; with dying came peace.

He meets Chloe too early, and he gets to hear about Penelope. He shares his own stories, too, over egg sandwiches. Chloe tells him about Lucifer. She doesn’t say so, but he can tell Lucifer is mending the hole losing him left in her. Seeing them together, seeing him literally burst into flames for her— and then somehow resurrect himself? John doesn’t really know how it works— only confirms that for him.

Axara may be a self-absorbed diva, but literally anyone could see there’s something going on between Lucifer and that Detective he works with. In an effort to match-make them (and send her thanks), she gives Detective Decker VIP tickets to her show. She might invite them backstage when they get there. She hasn’t decided yet. It’d be good to keep Lucifer as a connection— he has the best club in L.A. and he’s not a horrible singer. Fine, he’s pretty much perfect, no matter how much she’d tried to piss him off when he was playing bodyguard.

Imagine her disappointment when Detective Decker doesn’t show up with him but the Lieutenant. There’s something about that guy Axara doesn’t trust. She doesn’t really love the power dynamic either; she wonders if Detective Decker felt pressured to go with him. She focuses on her performance— it’s her biggest yet after all the drama with Cece trying to scare her off the stage.

What’s crazy is Axara still loves Cece. She just wishes Cece could see that and could be okay with the choices Axara made. Life in the spotlight is hard and, yeah, sometimes dangerous. But it’s worth it to Axara.

She hopes Cece figures out all those issues she has.

When Charlie turns 17, Uncle Lucifer and Trixie take him to an X-rated movie. All his friends at school are probably gonna be really jealous Charlie gets to go to a movie with graphic violence and naked people, but Charlie isn’t all that thrilled. The violence is fine, he guesses. He’s probably seen worse between Dad and his siblings (except Uncle Lucifer obviously), but the naked people he’s really not looking forward to seeing. Obviously, he doesn’t want to tell Uncle Lucifer. Because of him, Charlie knows more about sex and drugs than any 17 year old probably should.

It’s not even ‘cause he’s uptight, like Uncle Lucifer would think. He just doesn’t think he’d ever wanna… do that. Why would he? Charlie is aware it wouldn’t have to be a girl. Uncle Lucifer was really extensive in his Talk. But Charlie doesn’t think he’d want that with anyone. There’s a word for it, but he forgot what Uncle Lucifer said, because he moved on pretty quickly.

Thankfully, there’s only one, very short, sex scene in the movie. Charlie ends up enjoying the movie a lot, and tells Trixie so when she asks.

It’s the kind of slow work day that has everyone in the precinct. Days like this should radiate a sense of calm, since nobody’s calling anything in, but it always feels eerie. At least to Cacuzza. Ella’s rattling on about celebrities and movies she’s watched lately— something about Florence Pugh’s buzzcut and how hot she looks with one. Cacuzza can’t say she disagrees, especially with it dyed pink.

But she’s a little more focused on whatever is going on with Decker and Morningstar, or— as Ella calls it— Deckerstar. They’re having a hushed discussion about something. After Lucifer helped her out with her girl troubles (a debilitating crush on a certain forensic scientist), she wants to repay the favor. Not because he expects it— he rarely makes deals anymore— but because he’s almost a friend now.

“Are they finally together?” Cacuzza asks Ella.

“Girl, I wish!” Ella says. “It’s so bad, I’m thinking of matchmaking plots.”

Cacuzza laughs. “I’d help.”

“Don’t tempt me; I’m not even kidding. I have a thirty page Word document ready.”

“No way! Pics or it didn’t happen.”

Ella smirks and pulls up said document. Like promised, it has plenty of ideas, organized by least to most crazy.

“There’s no way 42 would work,” Cacuzza says.

“Wanna bet?” Ella asks.

Abel follows the gorgeous woman— Daisy— to the place she calls home. When he was first on Earth, home was the Garden and there were not such intricate buildings. Daisy is eager to explore his body and he is eager to explore hers. Abel almost lets her take him to her bed, until she touches his chest. When he feels her hands on his breasts, an unwelcome reminder of the body he is now in, he’s overcome with such discomfort he shoves her off.

“I’m sorry, I cannot lay with you,” he says.

“Excuse me?” she asks, seeming upset.

Abel cannot find it in him to care. He makes his way to Lucifer, thinking the man may have a suggestion. He’s very knowledgeable about Earthly affairs, helping Abel acclimate to his new surroundings. He’s the one who introduced Abel to Daisy. Come to think of it, he seemed eager to stop Abel from laying with the beautiful woman he’s working with.

“Lucifer,” he demands. “I cannot stay in this body! Take me back to hell; this is torture in itself.”

“Oh, Abel,” Lucifer says with a sigh. “Things have changed quite a bit since… well you know. I’ll introduce you to Dr. Mehta.”

Zadkiel doesn’t think anything Lucifer could say would convince him he’s fit to be God. Not that Michael is much better of an option; he’d much rather Amenadiel be shutting this squabble between them down and taking the throne. The Fallen One becoming God is a joke. Jophiel said he bribed with top shelf, so he’ll have a drink and be entertained for a fleeting moment at the very least.

He hadn’t realized how much Lucifer had changed. Lucifer seems to truly care about this human, claims to even love her. Though he didn’t say so in those words, Zadkiel can see it.

Which is why he takes Lucifer’s side at the stadium. Raziel joins them as well, swayed by Zadkiel’s speech supporting Lucifer. It’s clear Lucifer’s more righteous than Michael now. It’s only a moment before fear drags her back across the line. While he doesn’t approve of his brother saying so, he agrees with Amenadiel’s aside that Mom never liked her. Though… their parents never seemed to care much about any of them.

Suki is in the middle of crocheting a mini version of Lucifer. He’s wearing a new suit today, which is somewhat rare. Lucifer is , like, definitely loaded, so he gets new pieces occasionally, but it’s a bit more rare he gets a whole new outfit. Suki doesn’t know if he was wearing the new suit for Jana the flight attendant, or for the detective he works for. She’s seen Chloe Decker go back and forth from Lucifer’s penthouse way more than anyone else, so probably her.

Her phone lights up from her nightstand— a notification from AO3 about one of the flight attendant fics she posted the other day. It must be regaining popularity because of the recent news on Jana. She sighs and goes to take a shower.

The last person she expects to see when she walks back into her bedroom is Lucifer Morningstar himself, which is why she yelps and retreats into her bathroom. She obviously goes back out to see him, only after she’s put on some perfume and deodorant. She thinks her Luci-board helps him and Chloe, but they never talk to her again, so she doesn’t really know.
