“Carl? Would you do the same thing to save me?”

“Our first [redacted] as husbands,” TK muses, mind drifting for a moment while he sorts through the mail on the console table behind the couch. 

He can’t help it. That word – husbands – it’s still so new. Just saying it puts him in a dopey lovesick mood. And he’s been saying it a lot lately. 

“This is a big deal.”

“Oh yeah?” Carlos asks, amusement coloring his voice. 

He rests a steady hand on TK’s hip while he crowds up behind him, close enough that his lips brush the shell of TK’s ear when he speaks his next sentence. 

“Just like last night was a big deal? Our first time filling the gas tank as husbands.” 

TK chuckles and turns around in Carlos’s embrace, settling his arms across his husband’s shoulders. 

“Yes. Followed by our first time sitting in traffic on Mopac–” 

He pushes up on his toes so he can press a teasing kiss to Carlos’s lips. 

“As husbands.” 

Another kiss. 

“And last week when we went to Costco for the first time as husbands.”

“How about two weeks ago when we were sipping piña coladas on the beach for the first time as husbands? Oh!” Carlos drags his hand across TK’s lower back, letting it settle on his ass before giving his right cheek a squeeze. His smile slipping from sweet to wicked. “Or the night before, when I–”

“Hey now,” TK laughs, slapping a hand on Carlos’s chest. “Don’t start something you don’t have time to finish.”

To start off, if we were to do a role swap I would ditch Michelle for Tommy immediately. I’m sorry but I do not like her at all, hated her storyline, literally everything. Tommy fan forever. So we start this story with Tommy as Captain (just some background knowledge)

Mateo joins way before the original 126 had their accident as he joins Tommy’s team as a Probie, maybe after his second test? I think Tommy would get him diagnosed with Dyslexia fairly quickly, seeing as she is a parent and may have seen/heard it from school or just general knowledge. Idk I feel like Tommy would know stuff lmao. But point is, Mateo doesn’t reach the point of nearly flunking out completely as he gets Tommy as a captain super early on. Mateo would have the same personality, super eager to prove himself and help save others. A little naive at times but super smart. I think he’d be super friendly with Tim (who’s here too!) but I’m unsure of how Tim would react to Mateo. Maybe a little quiet/standoffish but generally chill. They would definitely discuss movies with one another and Tommy would be like “all I know are Disney kid movies”

I don’t remember what happened to the paramedics when the 126 passed originally but maybe they were reassigned and stayed together similar to season 3! So Mateo gets to stay happy with his team

Moving to Nancy, I think it would be similar to Marjan in how she’s in mainly male dominated firehouses which is a struggle for her as they kinda suck and she’s already pretty introverted. But she’s a damn good firefighter and it’s well known that she is and that’s how Owen finds her. It takes A LOT of convincing to get her to join but eventually she caves.

She would definitely be closed off to all of the 126 members, thinking it’s a temporary thing and that either a. They just suck or b. They don’t suck but the firehouse of everyone considered different isn’t going to work out so it’s not worth getting close. She’s still her sarcastic self tho and we love her for it. She trusts them (mostly) to have her back but not her personal life. Unfortunately she’s not friends with Tim at this point!

Background info over now onto the meeting point

The 126 firefighters and paramedics are officially in the same building now which means we get to see how the new relationships look and build

Mateo is super friendly and I think he would kickstart the friendship between the two sides immediately. Some are more reluctant than others (TK and Nancy and Judd I’m looking at you) but Owen is like wonderful idea let’s do it and great now EVERYONE is at the honky tonk. Congrats on your new found family everyone

In all seriousness I think Paul, Marjan, and Mateo would start their friendship, Mateo would drag Tim into it, Tim befriends Nancy, Marjan befriends TK and drags him in, Judd follows mainly because Owen and Tommy became friends and they’re very happy everyone is getting along. All in all they become really good friends with some more than others

Nancy and Tim do become really good friends! Just not to the level of closeness in the show unfortunately. But with everyone becoming friends with Tim, everyone sticks together and doesn’t let others grieve alone when the volcano happens :( they all mourn together especially since they truly know him this time around (Carlos and Grace are there too, but like I’m barely mentioning the main characters already 😭)

Actual Nanteo part! I know I wrote practically an entire essay and I do apologize for that so here’s the relationship part

Nancy and Mateo would become friends A LOT earlier than in the show which means their relationship would start a lot quicker! If I picked a time I think it would start when Mateo’s house blew up. Rather than Mateo moving in with Owen, Nancy would offer her apartment. It genuinely would be a chaotic roommates situation and then it just slowly grew over time and then suddenly they’re both domestic af and know practically everything about each other. They would be together before the end of season 2 maybe? Or in-between season 2 and 3!

A lot of small things would change (even some big ones!) but I cannot pinpoint all of them as it is a lot and I don’t remember a lot haha

Headcanons:

Nancy and Mateo constantly switch between chill dates and adventurous ones! Such as bungee jumping or just trying out a new recipe together

Piggybacking off of the previous hc, if they have the time Nanteo absolutely loves to marathon movies. They will sit down with junk food and blankets and comfy pajamas and binge entire series like marvel or the Jurassic park/world movies

They are strangely competitive with each other and will absolutely turn anything into a game meant to win. Whether it be who can catch the most pokemon in Pokemon go on an outing or who can piss off Judd the most in one shift. It will also translate to the bedroom and that’s all I’m saying on the matter 😂

AU’s I like/Would like to see Nanteo in:

Apocalypse AU- I think it would be neat to see these two surviving the apocalypse and then accidentally running into each other over supplies or maybe running from whatever caused the apocalypse and they’re originally super wary (trust issues) but then they’re like well safety in numbers YKnow and they just become friends and then eventually fall in love

Superhero AU- I’ve actually thought a tiny bit about this one but I’d love an au where the entire 126 has powers but maybe the team is split into two where one are heroes and the others are “villains” and then half of them are just secretly dating each other because “thats the enemy!” “But they’re cute :(“

Role Reversal AU- I think having Mateo as a paramedic and Nancy as a firefighter would certainly be interesting! They would not swap personalities or situations (ex: Mateo would still struggle with the testing portion and Nancy wouldn’t really get close to anyone else for awhile) It would definitely change the series around a lot and that would be cool to see!

Honorable mention that I haven’t seen focused on Nanteo at all: Omegaverse. I’ve seen it for Tarlos but never focused on any other ship 😔 I would read the hell out of that

In my humble opinion Nancy would be an alpha and for Mateo I’m leaning towards omega
