wait. actually, i will allow people to have one (1) objection to these discussions and it's that they're barely scratching the surface. the game changers series does this funny and unfortunately common thing where its white protagonists are accidentally written to be racist because they reflect the white author's racism. ryan price's fetishization of brown west asian men, for example, is meant to convey that he's not over fabian, his childhood crush. but it's just racist and gross. ilya calling shane "pretty like a doll" and his attitude toward shane's heritage ("japanese or something," which is where he gets his looks from...? rachel what does that mean) are meant to be cute and innocent, but reading that for the first time legitimately made my skin crawl. what are these white man doing. where are the sensitivity readers hello????

The way Troy talks about Adrian in the following quotes doesnt really uh. Sound like he has ever had that high of an opinion Adrian. Though its also possible the cheating thing made Troy take off rose coloured glasses.

^The last line here. Holy maceral dude, Troy says he thinks Adrian would have something bitchy to say about Harris??? Meanwhile Troy went to "Adrian is so self centered I doubt he even cares about the guy he cheated on me with," POT AND KETTLE DUDE!!

the way Troy describes Adrian is that he is bitchy, two faced, and self centered. Honestly, the fiirst 2 of those things could also be used to describe Harris HEAR ME OUT. I love Harris, he is so sweet and cool and hot and the reason why I like RM so much. But, Ilya calls him a gossip in TLG which means he probably does Say Shit behind people's backs, even if it is in an empathetic way. Harris is NOT self centered though, like at all. But I doubt Harris vs Adrian would be THAT different to gossip with. Whatever gossip Ilya has heard from Harris as his coworker is probably not much compared to when Troy gets in a relationship with him. (Its actually really cute in my head to imagine Troy and Harris talking shit together and laughing about it)

Troy's Harris vs Adrian comparisons (and not cutting Adrian slack for stuff that he cuts other people slack for) are very twisted and definitely reflects bias. obviously a large part of the bias is also that yk, they are having a messy break up. But I do like the interpretation that Troy thought some of these things about Adrian BEFORE the messy break up (because racism). (Though I can also see the interpretation that its one of those things where you misremember someone who wronged you as ALWAYS having been a jerk even when that isnt true.) The point is, these quotes show Troy holds Adrian to a higher standard than other people- which could have other root causes but racism does seem likely.

I dont wanna get that deep into the way Shane is written and how some stuff is a bit. Steriotypical. :/ I already got 2 anon hatemail/threats for saying that I didn't like how TV show Kip was more buff than book Kip (???) so I'm aprehensive about posting anything that could get the Heated Rivalry tv show fans on my case again because it really isn't that deep. Like we live in a racist society, obviously there are gonna be a bit of racism in books we read. Noticing and discussing it is a way of getting the most out of the books and shows.

His ears would have perked up any time Dallas made a comment he could join in on, his tail wagging when he gets a locker room of guys to laugh along with his jokes.

Then one day, Harris and Troy are laughing, happy and comfortable, and Harris can tell Troy's tail is wagging more than he's ever seen it. He chances it and scratches Troy behind the ears. Troy leans into the touch, his tail going crazy and ears relaxing.
