Odysseus and Diomedes on the mission to steal the horses of Rhesus
Chalcidian black-figure neck amphora, atributed to Incription Painter, 540 BC, J. Paul Getty Museum, Los Angeles.
The first photo depicts Odysseus killing a tracian soldier, the second photo is Diomedes killing King Rhesus, the next two photos show the horses of Rhesus, and the last two photos are equestrian decorative motifs.
Aside from how obviously beautiful Amphora is as a whole, I love the fact that the weapons are perched in trees and everyone is on cots, it's so cute, not to mention the clothes they're all wearing. I also love the horses, they're all gorgeous.
Interestingly they are not pierced they are hanging. And this shot actually shows the stripe of the sword
We also have frontal views of helmets;
Odysseus is also holding the looted weapons of Dolon
Your daily dose of Apollo
I feel like I need to share this because idk if Europeans are familiar with the presence of Aldi in the US, but at least especially in my area they’ve been growing a lot recently. Like Aldi bought out some local failing grocery chains where I live (Louisiana) and have opened Aldis in all these somewhat rural communities and small towns, which for the record I’m fine with
But as a result of this they are advertising a lot more in my area and also in many cases, the people in these areas have never been confronted with Aldi or any European grocery store. So the ads that Aldi is pushing out to its new US customer base feature a cowboy shopping at Aldi who is explaining to new Aldi customers how Aldi works. Like this cowboy is explaining you gotta put a quarter in the shopping cart and why there are very little name brands. A cowboy is how they want to reach their American customer base. They gave us a cowboy
Here he is, the Aldi Cowboy

Apollon joins the chat!! Fun study, the hair was the hardest part. But I wanted to use a statue with his bow hair.
The Piraeus Apollo, discovered in a votive pit during building works in the ancient harbor of Piraeus in July 1959, along with the Piraeus Athena and Piraeus Artemis, two Hermaic stelae, a mask, a shield, and other objects, by archaeologist John Papadimitriou. It is almost perfectly preserved, with minor damages and cracks, lacking only whatever would have been in the hands.
Traces of the missing objects are still visible: the left hand held a bow and the right a bowl, which may have been made of gold, confirming - along with the treatment of the hair - the identification of the figure as Apollo.
Once thought to date to the late Archaic period (530–480 BC) and to have come from a workshop of north-east Peloponnese, the figure shows an increased plasticity atypical of that tradition. He strides forward with his right leg, instead of the usual left, and his head is slightly bent to the front and right, abandoning the strictly frontal viewing position of the kouroi. His hair is rendered in a more naturalistic way than had previously been the case: it is tied with a band and forms spiraling curls over the forehead. It is now thought to belong to the Hellenistic period.

Apollo and his Muses ✨
A young princess of Thebes, doesn't know she's pregnant yet. She's incredibly optimistic and happy about life. She likes spending time outdoors (much to everyone's chagrin) and dreams of finding the courage to ask Zeus to just take her away from her miserable family and let her live with nymphs on some island far away. (Dionysus looks A LOT like his mom.)

Hmmm Wip
Tried to maintain facial structure basic in Apollo sculptures 🤔
“When we worship a deity, as I see it, we call upon a pool of universal power which, over generations, has been shaped into a specific form and voice by human minds.”
— @potnia-theronx // Artemis Iphigenia | Exploring mythic syncretism
this is the most concisely and accurately i’ve heard my view of the gods worded. the names and mythologies are an access point to a greater, broader power, separated and defined only by human culture and not through inherent or tangible boundaries. when i pray to Zeus-Helios i believe i am tapping into the power of the All-Father, the Maintainer of Reality, He who Gives Rise to All, specifically through one cultures’ refinement. He exists infinitely in other cultures, i just choose to worship Him in this specific way. when i worship Selene, i’m flowing down a river that leads to one source, the Moon, in which a wide variety of other rivers also flow into. hellenic polytheism is how i chose to process and interact with these forces!
Anyone get a feeling of "wow I really love my Gods" for literally no reason. No reminders of them or anything. It just happens. Or am I just silly?
#my family does this thing#when we've majorly unfucked a room or done chore that we were putting off#or whatever. Any sort of household Improvement.#'Come brag on me.'#I means come look I cleaned/rearranged/did dishes/put away the laundry#and the scripted response is 'oh nice it looks SO much better in here now'#like my mom did this when we were kids.#'girls comr brag on the garage I finally organized it so I can get my car in there'#and we go and 'ooh' and 'aah' and tell her how nice it looked and how she did a good job#and we could have her 'come brag on' us for like doing the dishes or cleaning our rooms#I do it to my wife now too#it's a dialogue that means#'I did a chore and it feels like an Accomplishment even if it objectively wasn't a big thing. Please acknowledge this.'#and#'Wow you sure did do a thing. It has improved our material circumstance even if only in a small way. Thank you for doing it.'#like yeah scrubbing the pans is my Job and it's a Little Task but sometimes it feels like a Big Task#and it's nice to have an Accepted Script where I can just demand 'I have functioned as an independent adult praise me with great praise' - by @thepioden
I wouldn’t usually make a post like this but I’m really scared and I need help. My dad is going for major spinal surgery today and he could end up paralysed if everything doesn’t go perfectly. Please pray for him, if you can. Thank you so so so so much. I’m praying to Lord Apollon, of course, but any extra prayers are really appreciated. 💛

TEXT:
AT THEBES
coming down from Cithaeron Agave bore in her bloodstained hand the head of Pentheus her son
she shouted again and again a lion I have slain a lion I rent him to pieces barehanded
who is mightier than I among women imbued as I am with the strength of Dionysus the vine-giving god
the men of Thebes wept to see this regal lady blind to her dreadful crime
they wept too for their king who though his end had come through his own folly
yet was a scion of Cadmus of ancient Phoenician stock regal and proud
when they had wept themselves dry they divided into bands and swept the beast-haunted wilds
one by one the pieces of Pentheus man of sorrows were gathered up and burned
then queenly Agave her eyes opened at last washed and wrapped his bones
