me: the broadway fandom's discourse on making theatre accessible by demanding professionally-filmed records of every broadway production for public consumption is both fundamentally misguided, as theatre is a live experience by definition, and filming it wouldn't be the same animal that the artists intended, and completely improbable, considering the costs of not only setting up the cameras and distribution but also dealing with copyright laws and paying every single artist who contributed to the piece, not even considering the very likely possibilities of lowering the box office intake of any given production, given audiences have access to a cheaper and more immediate representation of said production. it's also delusional of the fandom to frame these discussions as if broadway is a single entity making these decisions, when, in fact, broadway theatre is comprised of god-only-knows who many artists, producers, managers, etc. all working in a vast web whose individual contributions contribute in minute (albeit significant) ways to the face of new york theatre.
