Usually stoic, unemotional and fearless Character A loses miserably in a fight and breaks down when Character B tries to treat their injuries in the aftermath
Well, not really, but they knew how to retain enough knowledge to deal with the bleeding gash on A's side.
They remembered everything well, remembered the bravado of A, the countless fights beforehand- tending to small wounds and the eerie silence that followed.
B barely remembered how to stuff the wound.
They couldn't use a tourniquet- not with the gash being near A's ribs- but they could stop the bleeding if they just stuffed it enough to stop the heavier blood flow.
They hadn't bothered with a warning, cleaning the outer wound with water before grabbing what guaze they had, bundling it as tight as they could, before they shoved it as far as the wound would allow them
They hadn't expected A to react much
A howled, a guttural cry that turned into a scream of pain, gasps exiting their throat as their body lurched.
B didn't hesitate, panic thrumming across their fingers before they shoved another piece-and another- ignoring the screams reaching volumes they had never once heard from A before.
They remembered A as a heartless bastard, devoid of any form of emotion and skilled beyond their comprehension.
B remembered the stories- how A had given their emotions for a modicum of skill from a witch- how they then trained the tidbit of knowledge far beyond what a witch could even grant.
Finally done, B wrapped the last of the guaze, fingers and hands shaking away as the once strong fighter curled away from them. Their body tense in pain and fear.
B could remember how many times A had lost.
They tried reaching out, hands open in a gentle manner- far different than anything B had ever offered them.
A flinched away, unwounded hand pressing tightly against the rapidly reddening cloth. Their eyes were wide in terror, tracing B's every movement.
One time, but B couldn't remember who the enemy was.
