He trained you to make sure if anything happens when he isn't there to protect you, his training will at least keep you alive. Might have been the wrong choice but Chris was ready to even be a villain in your eyes, if it meant speeding the process of keeping you and your daughter safe from...a terrifying entity. He was ready to drag the dying, breaking, crystalline you from the Village to their aircraft, in the hope that you will at least be with your family in your last moments...but you didn't let him. He did everything by your last words. He took care of your family and made Rosemary to be strong. He would always admire your bravery and loyalty.

You were truly loved by Rosemary Winters. Your daughter didn't even know you for so long. Only that you died protecting her. She didn't remember how she tried to reach out to you when you were dying. She doesn't remember how much she smiled when you held her. She thought of you though...when she was having terrible times, which was most of her life, unfortunately. She thought of how you would have taught her to ride a bike, helped in her home works, and how you would have helped when she cried to herself. Because she saw the love her mother and her uncle Chris had for you, she knew you must have been lovely too. And then she saw you...met you...even fought with you. You tried to help Rose when she was lost in the megamycete stratums, you became her guiding light among the dark moldy branches. She read your letter and realised how precious you are to him. And when the time came, she decided to choose you over a normal life. She broke the purifying crystal, broke her dream because she too saw you as someone too precious for her to lose.

In a way megamycete loved you too and it let you "live" within its world, be normal compared to other pitiful souls. In a twisted way, Emily's desire to have a father protected you from losing your mental faculties to the mutamycete mold. Even the Hound Is old Squad loved you enough to call out Chris's mistakes. In a way, a lot of people who might have met you only once knew that you were a good man. They saw your kindness and your stubborn nature. They see you in Rosemary, and still think of you fondly.
