Summary: Arthur tries bubble tea for the first time.
“Right then, what’s this called again? Boh…ba?” The navy-haired author held up the cup to eye view, inspecting it.
“Boba.” Elizabeth corrected, suppressing a giggle. She gave her own, jasmine tea flavored with sea cream and pearls, a swirl. “It’s really popular in my time. The balls at the bottom are tapioca, and chewy.”
“Tapioca? I had that before. Though this one looks different from the snack in my era.” Arthur hummed, eyeing the drink a little longer before smiling at her. “Right then. Cheers.”
Arthur drew a smile from the other as they lifted their drinks, playfully ‘clinking.’ The contrasting, decorative liquids sloshed inside.
Elizabeth watched expectantly with big eyes as Arthur brought the big straw to his mouth and took his first sip as she did hers. She had gotten him a coffee milk tea flavor, to suit his tastes a little better.
“Hm, not bad.” Arthur smacked his lips after. “A little too sweet for my taste, though.” He grinned.
Elizabeth grinned back, sipping more of hers. “Oh! And be careful of the balls so you don’t ch–”
Arthur then started coughing haphazardly, sputtering as drops of brown milk tea – and some tapioca particles – hit the concrete sidewalk. Elizabeth’s hand flew to her mouth before soothing it over Arthur’s back rapidly.
“I–ack–missed a few.” Arthur hacked. Elizabeth bit her lip to hold back a laugh, soothing his back until he recovered. God knows how many times she’s done that, even when it wasn’t her first time.
“...I did say be careful.” Elizabeth offered meekly while handing him a napkin.
Arthur smiled wryly, directing his ruefulness at the drink. “Instructions were, ahem, unclear.”
Elizabeth finally laughed, leaning onto Arthur’s arm gingerly while holding her drink safely. Arthur glanced at her, a soft smile already back on his face. “I’m sorry, Arthur.” Elizabeth laughed, rubbing her eye with one hand. “You don’t need to finish the drink.”
“No, it’s quite alright luv. I learned my lesson now, right? Now, let’s continue exploring the things you enjoy in your era.” Arthur leaned his face toward her, the corners of his lips tipped meaningfully and gaze bright. Elizabeth felt her face flush a little, bemused how this man can be so charming after choking just a moment ago.
“Okay then.” She turned to continue walking, taking the lead to grab his hand.
As the famous author twined his fingers with her, he glanced at his boba again, “...You’re supposed to chew it, right?”
“I guess there are still some mysteries you need time to figure out.” Elizabeth mused as the couple made its way down the busy street.
