matt and i have been together a year now. up until recently, we’ve been so good together, but now it’s bad. really bad. i keep trying to convince myself we can fix it, but i really don’t know if we can. my friends have told me that i really need to get out, and i know his friends have told him the same, but we just can’t leave each other.

“you just.. fuck! look, i love you and all, but you talk way too much, sunshine.”
“what? matt, that’s really mean. i was just trying to make normal conversation with you— my boyfriend. see, i don’t get it. you used to tell me you adored how much i talk, why don’t you like it anymore?”
“see! that! you’re doing it again! there are things that could easily have shorter responses, and you just have to make them so fucking long! i don’t have all day to just listen to you!”
he yelled at me. there’s a brief moment of tense silence between us before i finally speak up quietly.
“are you falling out of love with me?”
“oh here we go. being all dramatic again. no, i’m not falling out of love with you sunny.”
“i just- i can’t even remember the last time you actually kissed me or asked about my day or anything like that!”
i cant help that i begin to raise my voice. i’m not yelling, not quite, not like matt had just done, but my voice is louder than normal. i can tell what i said had got to him, because he hesitates, and averts his gaze. when he finally speaks, it’s a lot quieter.
“that’s not true. i do those things all the time..”
it seems like he doesn’t even believe his own words.
“no you don’t and you know it! at least have the courage to admit it, matt. don’t be a coward.”
“excuse me?”
“i mean it! and i just- if you don’t fix your act, i don’t know if i can do this anymore.”
“fine! leave! see if i care! you won’t find anyone else who can handle you. you’re a fucking handful, you’re lucky i put up with you.”
he flings his hands in frustration and i see how tight his jaw is clenched. shortly after the outburst he drops onto the edge of my bed and sighs, burying his face in his hands.
“matt..”
he stays silent, not looking up. i sit beside him.
“see, that was mean. really mean. i was just trying to tell you that it’s getting really hard and if it continues i’ll be forced to leave for my mental health, even though i don’t want to, and you don’t even care. like- do you want me to leave?”
“no, sunny, i don’t. i’m sorry. i know that was mean. i just— fuck. i don’t know. i don’t know how to do this.”
“well, you’re gonna have to learn or leave, because right now? you keep hurting me.”
“.. i know, sweet girl, i know.”
he pulls me against him. i tense up, but then let myself relax.
“please.. i know you can be so good to me, we’re just going through a rough patch and need to fix it.”
“i’ll change, promise.”
“you said that last time. and the time before that. and the fifteen times before that.”
matt practically winces.
“i know, but i’m trying, okay? i’ll do better.”
he leans down to kiss me, and i melt into him. like always.
“stay here with my tonight? i don’t want you to leave, matt.”
“of course, pretty. anything for you. my sunshine.”
he promised he’ll change, so i stay. i hope and hope he’ll start to treat me better, but will he?

ooh! i could definitely write something about this when i get the time for sure, but for now i can give a brief overview.
i think he’d definitely be very helpful. he’s not a deadbeat or anything— he loves his child, and he also loves reader. he’d come help and make sure she took care of herself. he’d make sure she knew he’d drop anything to help her and/or his child at anytime!
i hope this lives up to your expectations, and i’ll try to get around to writing something about it at some point, but i am going through a busy patch atm! sending requests helps me so much though because it gives me motivation so i’m always open to receiving them.
