A Damn Cold Warden

I was walking to a pastry shop near my house because I was having a breakdown and needed a cinnamon roll and there. he. was. a guy on the side of the road. young guy with white hair, saxophone, sunglasses, and a hat on the ground for money. like what do you do. So I stood there with shock on my face and a pastry in my hand, then just walked over and sat next to him. he didn’t seem to care so I just sat there vibing with hoid for like an hour. (also his music was really good). But then he stood up to go so I did too and I dropped some money into his hat. and then he smiled at me and poured the money in his hat into his pocket, and theN HE SWEPT THE HAT TO HIS CHEST AND BOWED LIKE AN 18TH CENTURY GENTLEMAN. then he just strolled off.

you are a child twice and an adult once. and when you stand in your home again, with crushed bones and the smell of coal still in your nose, you watch them sneer at your sister.

your sister is the sun above you. she is, beautiful and stone-cast, alive in a world you could never stomach. she smiles, still, and stretches her skin over human bones.

A Stormlight Comic! - Ft. Kaladin and Szeth and… a Goat!

Saw a TikTok with goats climbing face-down a tree and you know what? Goats can surgebind. Kaladin thinks they can so it must be true!

I’ve never made one of these before so forgive me if it’s a bit clunky. 😬

A wonderful friend embroidered the Skybreaker and Edgedancer glyphs, and sent them to me. As soon as I felt them, I had a thought about the differences between those two glyphs. Here’s what I came up with:

It’s fascinating that the glyphs are similar in their general shape/outline, but the details are pretty different. Almost all of the lines in the Edgedancer glyph are connected in some form, but almost none of the lines in the Skybreaker one are. I just realized that the Edgedancer glyph looks a little like the branches of some kind of plant, but I don’t know if that’s intentional or not.

What I want to focus on is the difference in how connected the lines of each glyph are, and how that’s reflected in the Orders.

The lines in the Skybreaker glyph still work together to form a cohesive whole, but each of them is also separated from the others. There’s also that one in the middle that sticks up by itself, which makes me think of Nale . The Skybreakers have a rigid structure that comes together to form the Order, but there’s none of the closeness or connection we see with the Windrunners , for example. It’s very formal and utilitarian, and that seems to reflect in the glyph.

The lines in the Edgedancer glyph all connect together, and each is a vital part of making the glyph complete. It makes me think of the Edgedancer Ideals to remember those who are forgotten and listen to those who are ignored. We don’t know much about the structure of the Order, but I can guarantee that it’s a lot less rigid and defined than the Skybreakers .

- buildings casually made of wood and/or clay

- buildings with east-facing windows

- an entirely unfamiliar culture

- being quite a bit taller than the average Shin person (it would be hilarious if he accidentally hits his head on a doorframe at least once)

- being surrounded by white people

- and of course, spending time around Szeth and Nightblood
