Me: In Ridley Scott's Academy Award nominated film "The Martian" (2015) astronaut Mark Watney references both the Marvel and DC universes on several accounts. Mark references "flying around like Iron Man" during the climax of the film upon getting rescued by the Ares 4 crew. Does this imply that the MCU takes place in the same universe that The Martian takes place in? Or is this a different universe where the MCU never gets pursued, instead only the comics exist. If the MCU does exist within the realms of Mark's reality then what is the explanation behind Dr. Beck? Does the Ares crew just acknowledge the fact that he looks exactly like Bucky Barnes or was there a different actor to portray Bucky in the movie? Does this explain the multiverse theory or something larger? Can two universes exist side by side with only minor changes in one but not the other?
