it's been a while; dershton
She probably sensed his presence before his voice rang out behind her - nonetheless, a smile spread across her face easily, a sigh of relief that came from seeing someone that despite a rough past - she missed dearly.
She spun around, taking a second to cast a momentary glance down at herself. A sad occasion had resulted in this. She felt empty - but at least she didn't feel that nagging anguish that usually clung to her like a wet t-shirt. It was...relieving, actually. Like perhaps moving on was finally within her reach.
She approached him, hands clasped behind her as she spoke, "Look at you, being all gentlemanly." Teasing him came easily - came naturally. "It's very out of character, but I'll accept your compliment." They finally met, a friendly distance between them that for once in a long while, her emptiness had minimal desire to close. Perhaps she was moving on with more than just her sister. "You don't look too beat up either."
Derek let a small smile tug at his lips, glad that now whenever they met their conversation didn't start with a "Leave me alone" or an average insult. "Thank you. I, uh.. I've been changing in the past couple of months," he mentioned, and boy did he do a lot of it. It was as if the Derek everyone has been fighting against never existed - and he wanted to try and keep it that way from now on. Although he's not causing any harm anymore, he doubted anyone would forgive him any time soon.
Except Ashton, which he could never figure out why. It still puzzled him, not knowing if they were friends or not. "So," he cleared his throat, wanting to make conversation. "What's with the dress? I don't think I've seen you in one before." It was a start. He still wasn't sure of what to make of it, though. He wasn't a big conversationalist seeing that all he's done in the past was threaten everyone he'd come across.
The sun dimmed as it began to sink below the mountains of her not-so-new home of Los Angeles - The City Of Angels. And perhaps it was just that - a place for those angels to carry out whatever duties they had left to do.
Her toes sunk into the warm sand and a flowy dress blew out behind her. It...
It was somewhat such a relaxing day and Derek decided to spend it at the beach. Arabella had been so busy with the modeling gig that it minimized his time with her. Luckily for him, he didn't have to worry about the cops being on his case anymore. For an odd reason, David convinced the police to drop any charges and told them to stop looking for the person who had shot him. It was obvious that between the two of them, and a few others, Derek was really the one at fault, but he had been lucky David let him go.
Looking up from the sand, he didn't expect what he would see. Not too far away was Ashton in a beautiful dress, which earned a smile from him. It had been a while since the two had seen or spoken to each other and she keeps getting much more beautiful than the last time he's seen her.
Walking up to her, careful not to scare her, he cleared his throat. "You look amazing," he said out loud before he could put his thoughts together.

They seemed to be playing an odd form of Cat and Mouse or perhaps even Tag with the way they both seemed to chase each other down every time they tried to walk away. She turned, raising an eyebrow, a smile tugging at the corners of her lips at his stolid expression. "How gentlemanly of you." She mused, giving him a quick once over, "What's with the sudden change of heart?"
He glanced at her then shook his head. "I suppose I needed some entertainment in this town and this is the most I've gotten out of it." They entered the restaurant once again, earning a quick glare from the previous bus boy. A smug smile tugged at his lips, enjoying the reaction he'd received.

She emitted a low sigh as he shoved past her, still fuming - and her humanity caught up with her. She groaned internally, knowing all too well that she should simply let him go -- but instead, she turned, and followed him down the sidewalk. "Hey, wait!" She called just loud enough for him to hear. Catching up with him she pursed her lips, swallowing sharply as an apology fell from her lips. "Look, I'm sorry for being so harsh. It's just been a bad day - or, year, in my case - and I guess I just had to take it out on someone." Awkwardly tiptoeing around the topic she clasped her hands together, biting her lower lip gently, "Well, yeah - anyways, sorry. Hope my bad first impression didn't ruin the entire town for you." Elena offered up a small smile and turned, moving past him and beginning her own trek away.
Derek groaned as she called for him, wondering what more she could want. He turned his head t look at her, cocking an eyebrow as she began to apologize. His gaze moved down to her lips as she bit her bottom lip and immediately looked away. As much as he hated to admit it, the girl wasn't half bad. It's the best treatment he'd gotten from anyone in such a long time - years, that is. He stopped walking and turned around to watch her leave then ran his fingers through his hair. "What am I doing?" he asked himself and began to catch up to her. "I'm paying for your drink." It wasn't exactly an offer, more of a "I won't be taking no for an answer" kind of thing.

She sighed lowly, giving him an exasperated and almost-bored look, "Do I look like I'm kidding? C'mon. Is this all really worth it?" She raised her eyebrows, awaiting a response. A voice soused from behind him and she perked up, eyes casting around the stranger and to the busboy that had followed them down the street. She chuckled at the fuming boy as he unwillingly paid for his drinks, sending the Grill employee back to the bar and turning to face her again. "Jail, huh?" She questioned, nodding somewhat to herself that he could fit into the group of a gang member. "Yes." She replied, a light smirk tugging at her features, "Overjoyed."
"That part of my life is none of your business," he shot at her once she questioned about his jail time. His eyes rolled at her smirk. "I'd assume you'd want me to pay for yours, too." Derek pushed past her, his shoulder hitting hers. Where he was headed, he didn't know. What he did know was that the girl was an annoyance, and he wanted to get away as soon as possible.
