I'm not a Sonamy fan, and have grown actively fed up with it the more it proves to be inescapable, and the more its fans (the rabid ones, not all of them) can't handle it if you don't think it's the greatest thing ever.

So take a wild guess, lol.

Today is the day that the crew start filming scenes for Sonic 3 without their actors/actresses in them. These scenes will feature Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, and Shadow for the time being. This is both exciting and a bit nerve wrecking.

Please be cautious of what you see online for the months of September and October. I know that we’re all very eager to see stand-in, scenes, and many more. I would hate to see fake leaks and fan edits be confused with authentic materials.

As of today (September 1st, 2023), the WGA strike is still in motion.The script for Sonic 3 was completed before the strike began. It is unknown at this moment in time if the movie will be delayed. If so, please be supportive of the actors and writers. It is our job, as fans, to show compassion and support to the crew. If the film is delayed, then it is delayed. The well-being of the production crew, writers, and actors is much more important than the film.

Long answer:

While the Knuckles series is supposed to tie into Sonic 3 somehow, projects like these are usually meant to be side-content, with the movies being the primary product. Paramount expects most of the audience (old and new) will jump directly from Sonic 2 to Sonic 3, as not everyone will watch the miniseries.

Side-content can be a good way to establish certain plot points or introduce minor characters without slowing down the film, which has much shorter runtime. Take for example "The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special": it was a piece of side-content that helped bridge the gap between movies and delivered new information on the world and characters that the next film wouldn't have time to get into. And while the third Guardians movie makes references to the special, it's not necessary that you watch it first in order to understand the story.

Or an even better example, the Official Sonic 2 Pre-quill comic. The stories inside showed us things that weren't explained in the sequel, such as how Agent Stone adquired the coffee shop and Robotnik's tech; the identity of the aliens at the beginning of the movie, etc. All of this gives us a better insight into the overall universe, but the average viewer can just watch both movies and not feel lost.
