Eighteen months. 547 days. 13128 hours. That’s how long it’s been since Luke left camp— left you. Up until then, the two of you were inseparable. The two of you were on the run together for two whole years, along with Thalia. Hell, the two of you had your first everything together. Maybe it was the forced proximity for over two years, but you grew to love him, and he did you. So, after he had betrayed everyone and left camp, you were heartbroken. The guilt ate away at you constantly. You and Luke were attached at the hip. How did you not notice what he'd been up to? Everyone always says the same thing to you: “Don’t blame yourself, y/n. There’s no way you could've known.” And maybe they're right, but he did talk about his hatred for the gods more than the average demigod. But here’s the thing: you agreed with him, so why would you think it’s out of the norm? When someone says they dislike the gods, you don't assume they're gonna turn around and work for Kronos. Gods, that name makes your skin crawl.

After this long, you were finally starting to heal, but then one day, percy and annabeth sat down across from you at the dining hall with a sad expression on their faces.

“He what?” you gawk

“He... stabbed Thalia's tree,” Percy says solemnly, sitting across from you in the dining hall. Your heart drops, and you turn to look at Annabeth, only to be greeted with the same sad look in her eyes.

“Tell me it's not true, Annabeth. Please.” You shake your head in denial.

She sighs, looking over at Percy before finally finding her voice.

“It's true, y/n. We saw him.”

At that moment, it was like your entire world stopped moving. You couldn't even hear what Annabeth and Percy were saying. You were just... Lost in your own mind. How could he do this? You thought. You, he, and Thalia went through literal hell together, and he was completely shattered when Thalia died– as did you. So for him to do this.. Well, it was like being stabbed in the back.

“So.. what do we do?” you finally say.

“Its complicated.” Annabeth said. “The only way to heal her tree is to get the golden fleece.”

“You have to come with us to get the golden fleece and find Grover.” percy chimes in, which catches your attention and snaps you out of your trance.

You nod, “Right, and you really think Tantalus is gonna give us a quest?”

“And that's where our plan comes in.” Percy begins. “We already went to him. And he gave the quest to Clarisse."

“Clarisse? How am I just finding out about all of this?”

Annabeth shakes her head in disappointment. “You isolate yourself from everyone, what do you expect?”

It was true, you did isolate yourself, especially after everything that happened. You felt like trusting anyone would just lead to disaster, as it did with Luke. Of course, it was more than just trust with Luke, which is also why you haven't looked in any other man's direction. Plus, he never really broke up with you, so it also just felt weird, y’know?

“Okay, well, we can't just leave. We won't be able to come back.”

Percy looks at you, challenge in his eyes. “I think if we come back with the fleece along with Grover, they will welcome us with open arms.”

You scoff.

“So..?” Annabeth inquires, waiting for a response.

“Fine. I'll come.” You stand up, “We leave tomorrow night.”

Annabeth smiles, noticing the you she knows and loves coming back.

The next day, the three of you left for the unofficial and unapproved quest. After getting on the small jetboat, a larger and much fancier ship comes into view. Percy said Hermes had told him to get on the boat, so that's what you guys did. The three of you got on the top deck, and you cringed as loud and incredibly obnoxious pop music played from gods know where.

“So, what are we exactly doing here? Because we definitely don't have time to party,” you remark.

Percy gave you a side glare. “I don't know, okay? Hermes didn't tell me anything other than ‘I got you a ship, get on it, ' he retorted.

Frustration begins to bubble up in your very soul, but you manage to conceal it with a weary sigh. “Okay, well, we have a room card, right? So let’s start there.”

The younger two look at you and nod, and the three of you navigate your way to room 219. On your way, all of you don't fail to notice the three monsters going into an elevator.

“The hell..?” you mutter under your breath. “It’s a trap.”

The shorter girl looks at you, as if she's searching for answers. “What do we do?”

“Nothing. We still don't know why we’re here. And nobody seems to be attacking us,” Percy contradicts.

“So? It’s still a trap.”

Annabeth groans and drags the two of you into the room. “One, can the two of you stop arguing for five minutes, and two– we need a plan. Like, an actual plan.”

You pull away from Annabeth's harsh grasp, and of course, Percy stays put.

God, they're adorable. Ever since Annabeth met Percy, you knew she was falling for him. It was hard to tell, but you can read her like a book. And she is definitely in love. And so is he. It was a sweet, innocent kind of love. It was never like that with you and Luke. With you and him.. It was this all-consuming obsession, where it wasn't unusual for him to get into physical altercations over you. You can only hope Annabeth and Percy's love stays pure and delicate, not dangerous.

After a moment of silence, you look at Annabeth and give her a nod of agreement. “Alright,” you huff, pulling out the bag gifted to you by Hermes from last night. His words are still in your head. “I still have hope for Luke,” and it was only a haunting reminder of what Luke had done. You hated to admit it, but you agreed with Hermes. The hope you have for Luke lessens each day you go on without him, but it’s still there

A deep breath exits your lungs, and you dump the bag out on the bed. It was littered with random items, like a thermos and multivitamins.

“I really don't understand why Hermes gave us all of this. Why the hell would we need a ship card?” Percy exclaimed, picking up the card and scoffing.

Your eyebrows furrow as you look at the card and grab it out of Percy's hands. He grumbles a protest, but you silence him. “This… this has the mark of Kronos on it,” you say out of realization.

“Luke's on the ship,” Annabeth adds, looking at you with dread in her eyes.

“We have to find him and–”

“--and what, seaweed brain?” says Annabeth, “kill him?”

“We’re not killing him,” you chime in.

Percy goes quiet, looking away from Annabeth with guilt in his eyes. “Listen, guys. He's not the same person you two knew him as anymore. All he is is a puppet for Kronos.”

“No. He's still in there,” you insist.

“Exactly. Which is why we’re gonna find him, and talk to him.” She looks at you, then Percy. “Please, Percy. Just listen to us.”

“And how do we know he’ll listen to us?”

“Y/n. That's how. Maybe he won't listen to me, but he will definitely listen to you,” says Annabeth, and she turns to you. “We can split up to find him.”

“What?” Percy exclaimed, shaking his head violently. “No, we aren’t using her as bait for that psychopath–”

“Percy, it’s the only way.” you cut him off. “She’s right. He’ll listen to me.” Percy looks at annabeth, as he often did. You roll your eyes at their cluelessness before saying; “The two of you are sticking together. I’ll check on the top deck.”

They look at each other before nodding at you. And with a reluctant departure, you head up to the top deck.

“How the hell am I supposed to find him on this big ass boat?” you scoff to yourself. You eventually made it to room 1. “Captain's office.” It was a big room, and the person who lives in it definitely has a big ego. You walked over to the desk, noticing piles and piles of letters and various papers that probably had to do with finances. An annoyed huff leaves your mouth as you keep searching for anything that would help you find Luke. That's when you noticed a picture frame lying on the desk. Out of curiosity, you picked it up. You always were nosy, after all.

It was a picture of you and Luke. Just over two years ago, before everything happened. It was you, smiling as Luke had his arm around you, the rising sun in the background.

“shit.” you hissed, putting the picture back down as you realized you're in his suite. His very, very obnoxious suite.

“What are you doing here?” a familiar voice echoes from behind you. And just like that, your heart drops to your stomach.

Slowly, you turn around to face him. Over the past year and a half, you've wondered what he looks like now. Messed-up clothes, longer hair, etc. But definitely not whatever this was. White fleece with a white collar tucked underneath, perfect curls, skinny jeans. Gods, what the hell happened? Thalia would throw up if she saw the way Luke is dressing.

You try to speak, but nothing comes out. Eventually, you muster out a weak “Luke,”

“y/n.” he stepped forward, shock evident in his expression. “You shouldn’t be here.”

“I know.”

He shakes his head, an almost mocking glint in his eyes. “I told you not to chase after me, but here we are. I knew you'd crawl back to me.”

‘That’s not why I'm here–”

“Then why are you here?”

You freeze, not knowing whether to tell him the truth about the quest, about his father, or come up with some bullshit lie. You knew you'd be in deep shit either way, so you decided to just tell the truth. “I'm on a quest. To find the golden fleece. And to find Grover.”

“Huh.” he says, “just you?”

“No,” you admit. “I'm with Percy and Annabeth.”

At the mention of the two, Luke's expression darkens. “Of course. I should have known,” he chuckles, dry and almost filled with pain. “Why would you come here for me, after all? You made it abundantly clear that you don’t care about me.”

Confused, you scoff. “What are you talking about?”

“You know exactly what I mean,” he snaps, “You know the gods are using you and don't care about any of us, yet you're still a good little soldier for them.” he takes another step forward as he looks at you, like he's observing you with a cold glare. “I get it. You're just choosing the gods over me.”

“I didn't choose the gods over you, Luke. I couldnt leave my friends and family at camp for a suicide mission.”

“Its not a suicide mission, i havent died yet.”

“Yet,” you say, voice rising. “You really think you can just... What, take on the gods with your little army? They will kill you all within minutes.”

“With Kronos by our side, we’ll win,” Luke says, with an almost dark tone evident in his voice.

“You must be stupid if you really think Kronos is gonna help you. He’s using you, can't you see?” You take a step back, shaking your head in pure disbelief. “He’s gonna kill you once he's done with you.”

Luke clenches his jaw, “You don’t know what the hell you’re talking about, y/n!” he yells, which causes you to flinch. He looks down at you, guilt flashing over him as he sees your frightened expression. “I'm sorry,” he mumbles, bringing up his hand to caress your cheek. “I just want you to be safe. And the only way you’ll be safe is if you’re with me.”

Tears threaten to prickle from your eyes at his touch, which you’ve craved for so long. You can't help but want to give up, stay with him, and pretend everything is okay. But you know that's not an option. “Luke,” you sigh, his familiar touch putting a spell over you. “You poisoned Thalia's tree. I can't..I don't understand why you'd do something that cruel.”

His eyes darken, and his hand pauses its gentle strokes on your face. “You wouldn’t understand, it’s complicated.”

“You’re right. I don't understand,” you start, taking a step back from Luke. His face falls as you depart from his touch. “We were best friends with Thalia! we were on the run with her for two god damn years, does that mean nothing to you?”

“Thalia would've been on my side and you know it!”

“No, she wouldn't. She disliked the gods, yes, but the last thing she would do is betray her friends and family!”

His jaw clenched, and he fell quiet. He knew deep down that you were right, but his built-up wall of stubbornness and pride prevented him from admitting it.

“You don't understand, y/n. You really don't,” he says and steps back, “Kronos is going to make the world a better place, can't you see? We’re going to rebuild his body, and then everything will fall into place.”

You look at him in disbelief, wondering how the sweet boy you once knew turned into... this. A soldier for Kronos. “That's why you stabbed the tree,” you realize, “To force a quest for the fleece to fix Kronos.”

He looks at you, guilt in his dark eyes. “It’s the only way,” he says, “Listen, if you join me, we can finally start a good life together– like we always wanted.”

“Its too late for that, Luke. You’ve gone down the wrong path.”

“I thought you loved me, y/n.” he shakes his head. “I thought you’d stand by me, I thought our love would be enough. But I guess not.”

“Its not about love, Luke. It’s about doing the right thing.”

Luke narrows his eyes down at you. “Yeah, right.” he mumbled, "You're just scared. Scared of standing up for something for once in your life. You need to stop letting the gods walk all over you and dictate your every move, it's pathetic.”

You go quiet. You wanted to argue, to fight back– to prove him wrong..but nothing came out. He was getting in your head again, and you knew it. “I shouldn’t be here.” you turn away, But before you can reach the door–Luke's hand grasps onto your arm.

“You’re just gonna run away?” Luke's voice comes out sharp and cold. “Didn’t know you became a coward.”

“Fuck you, luke.”

“I bet you'd want that, wouldn't you, huh?” he lets go of your arm and moves closer, his nose almost touching yours. “You came all this way, might as well make up for lost time.”

“What?”

“You heard me.” he leans in further, just barely pressing his lips against yours. “Tell me to stop, y/n. If you don't want it, tell me to stop.”

A beat. You don't say anything, just gaze at him with a pleading look in your eyes– like you’re begging him to not make you fall in love with him again.

And with that, he cups the back of your head, and presses his soft lips against yours. Its as if time stopped in that moment, like nothing had changed between the two of you, and like it was just the two of you behind the hera cabin, exchanging stolen kisses and whispered promises. The kiss came natural to the both of you, as his tongue gently slid into your mouth. His arm hooked around your waist, while his other hand stays put in your hair. You hated to admit it, but you missed this. There was something about the way he held you that made you feel safe. He pulled away from the heated kiss, gasping for air as he pushed you onto the wall. “See? I knew you missed me.”

“Shut up,” you say, and lean in for another kiss. His mouth greeted yours, and a soft noise left your mouth at his eagerness. He trailed hot kisses down your neck gently, between quiet whispers of your name. “We really shouldn't be doing this..” you gasp, “annabeth and percy could walk in any minute now–”

He groans against your neck, “who cares about annabeth and percy?”

“I do. I can't.. Leave them on their own for too long..

“Fine.” Luke says, and pulls away. “Go. leave.”

“What? You're not gonna stop us–”

“Just fucking leave before i change my mind!” he yells.

You frown and turn around on your heel to leave. But right when you put your hand on the door– a sharp pain jolts through your body from your head. And everything goes dark as you collapse onto the floor. You look up through a blurry gaze, and see Luke hovering over you. You reach down to your nose as you feel something wet. Blood. Blood, everywhere. “..Luke?”

“I'm sorry, y/n.” his voice cracked. “This is the only way.”

partying was never your thing..originally. but that all changed when you turned 19— and then all of the sudden you turned into some sort of party animal. you usually went with Clarisse and some of your other friends, but today was different. you just wanted to drink alone and sulk.. also maybe find some male company. Which is why you picked out a revealing outfit and put on slightly more makeup than usual.

“All alone, beautiful?” you heard from behind you. you turned around and saw some random guy with blonde hair and hazel eyes. you recognized him— cabin 9 perhaps?

“Yeah.” you said shortly, as you took another chug from your red solo cup.

he moved in closer, wrapping his arm around your torso. “Do you have a name, doll?”

“y/n.”

“Well, y/n..” he drawled, “my name is Theo, and if you let me bring you back to my cabin..” he paused. “I can show you a good time.” Theo flashed you a smile.

“Uh..” you stammer, “I don’t know..” you slur, shrugging his arm off of you.

his eyes seemed to darken ever so slightly at that, your rejection clearly taking a toll at his ego. He quickly recovers— a smirk growing on his face. “Come on, y/n. You won’t regret it.” He said in your ear, as he pushed you up against the wall.

before you could even think about giving in, another voice enters the conversation.

“hey, dipshit.” Luke says, tapping on theo’s shoulder. Theo turned around, and Luke swiftly right hooked him in the face. “Get the hell out of here, you fucking creepshow.” Luke threatened. You stood there in shock, but also confusion. things escalate so quickly around here…

Theo didn’t even think to fight back, and he just ran away out the door. you furrowed your brows as Luke grabbed your bicep and started dragging you out of the party. You pulled away from him and stopped right at the entrance.

“What the hell was that for?” You asked out of pure confusion. you and Luke hated eachother. With a passion. So it didn’t make sense for him to be doing something like this.

Luke scoffed, throwing up one hand in the air, “he was being a creep. I don’t want you getting taken advantage of— even if I don’t like you.” he explained. “Now get back over here. You’re too drunk to be on your own right now.”

a part of you wanted to be angry at him, for dragging you out of the party and causing a fight. But deep down you knew it was a kind gesture. It was just shocking, that’s all. I mean, out of all people to save you from a weird guy— Luke was the last person you were expecting to help you. You thought he didn’t give two shits about you.

“Fine.” you slurred, stumbling back over to him.

“Careful there, sunshine.” he teased, grabbing your cup and taking a sip out of it. He sputtered and threw the cup into a random garbage can. “gods, what the hell was in that?”

“I dunno.” You shrugged as you walked along the dirt path with him. “I just poured random stuff. Pink Whitney… baileys…” you listed.

his eyes widened and he looked at you like you just admitted to an actual crime. “Are you trying to get alcohol poisoning?”

“No..”

“well it definitely seems like you are.” he smiled at you. A genuine, friendly smile. something you’ve never seen directed at you from him. He walked you back to your cabin, the walk being relatively quiet after that. He followed you in, knowing you still shouldn’t be on your own. “Take it easy,” Luke said, guiding you down to what he assumed to be your bed. he kneeled, helping you take off your heels.

your eyes followed his form as he walked over to the mini fridge one of your siblings had set up, as he pulled a water out. He tossed it over to you. “Drink up, sunshine. I don’t want you throwing up all over that dress.”

You fumbled with the cap until you eventually opened it and took a sip. After a moment, you set the water down at your nightstand and looked back at him. “You don’t have to stay.” You muttered, still very drunk.

He sighed. “Yeah. I just don’t want you to do something stupid.”

you layed down in your bed. you didn’t even care you were still wearing your dress— you were too tired to do anything about it anyway. “Well.. thanks, I guess.”

“No problem.” Luke shrugged nonchalantly. “I guess I should head out now.”

he walked over to the door, taking one last look at you before muttering a short “night, princess.” And walking out the door.
