thinking about how anakin grew up on tatooine and it's implied in TPM (and outright stated in one of the EU books, iirc the first time at 3 years old) that he witnessed other enslaved people's transmitters detonating.

imagine being 3 years old and watching someone explode from the inside out and die (possibly instantaneously, possibly slowly, always agonizingly) in front of you AND FEELING IT LIKE IT'S HAPPENING TO YOU. YOU ARE 3 YEARS OLD.

As my Padawan, Anakin has become a strong part of my life, yet he remains something of a mystery to me. Recently, I found him gazing up at the night sky. Although Coruscant's atmosphere is too polluted for stargazing, I suspected he was looking in the direction of the Tatooine system. I know that from an orbital skyhook, Tatooine's twin suns would appear to the naked eye as a dim, single star, and had found Anakin searching for that point of light on previous occasions. Feeling sympathetic, I asked him if he was thinking of his mother. He kept his eyes skyward as he answered, "No, I was thinking of yours." His tone was not unkind or antagonistic but I did sense a certain tension in his words. I asked why he was thinking of my mother, and he said, fixing me with an expression that indicated his answer was obvious. "Because someone should."

Meet TJ, a young Star Wars fan who, back in 1977 at the age of 16, made history as one of the earliest known cosplayers of the saga - before cosplay was even a thing.

A friend of hers recently shared this iconic photo and wrote:

"This is my friend TJ wearing a costume she made herself for Halloween in 1977. She was 16 at the time. Keep this in mind: there was no internet to search for images, I couldn't rent the movie or pause it because it wasn't released on video until 1982. TJ went to the theaters many times, took notes with a flashlight, made several sketches, and put it all together. It was 1977 - just remember that girls grew up loving Star Wars too."

A powerful tribute to creativity, passion, and fandom from the very beginning of a galaxy far, far away.

Anakin trained Ahsoka to survive.

That's it. He trained her to be what she needed to be to make it through the Clone Wars, and he was successful. This episode hammered home how young she was 14 in the middle of a war zone with only a lightsaber and her courage, and Anakin of all people knew how to get her through it.

This right here is absolutely fundamental to understanding the entire purpose of the Skywalker saga, as Lucas so painstakingly told it. The destruction of the old Jedi Order that had ‘lost its way’ and forgotten its true role in the galaxy, and the founding of the New, heralded by Anakin’s return to the Light, and Luke’s essential role in reminding him—and us all—of what it means to be a True Jedi.
