Do you ever think about how much James, Lily, and Sirius adored Remus and how distraught they must have been whenever he put himself down because of what he was? Saying heâd never find love? Never have kids or make a family? Because he was too dangerous and didnât want to hurt anyone and who would love someone like him anyway? Heâs better off alone?
And like, in the event they all lived, do you ever imagine how fucking proud of Remus they all would be when he marries Tonks and has Teddy? Like? Can we imagine for a moment uncle James and uncle-second-dad Sirius and auntie Lily who are just in tears proud of Remus who never deserved any of the shit heâd been given, the suffering endured, now holding this tiny lil baby with blue hair and a smile but enough to stop world wars, because Teddy has the same gorgeous energy as his mother?
Remus and Sirius adored Harry to the death, so can you fucking imagine how much James and Sirius would have loved Teddy? Teddy who is inexplicably so similar to Sirius? Teddy who would have talked hours into the night with his uncle James about Transfiguration? Teddy who would have James as his Godfather no doubt because Sirius had Harry and they needed to be fair about things?
Teddy who would color his hair blue but keep his fatherâs eyes, wear leather jackets in honor of Sirius, make deer jokes just to make James grin?
I know we all talk about how Harry would grow up with all of them, but can we please just talk about how Teddy would grow up with all of them? With Remus, decorated war hero awarded with the Order of Merlin first class; Tonks, skilled metamorphmagus and honored Auror; uncle James, a powerfully skilled Transfiguration expert; aunt Lily, a master at charms and potions; uncle Sirius, so I even need to articulate; cousin Harry, war hero who grows into being Head Auror and later the Head of Magical Law Enforcement; grandma Andromeda, probably one of the most badass Blackâs to exist; grandpa Lyall, master against poltergeist and boggarts; grumpy grandpa Moody aka retired Auror who adores him because he adores Tonks and he canât help it; and his uncle Kingsley, literally the Minister of Magic? They would love Teddy so fucking much because heâs a blessing that Remus deserved to have.
Teddy who would ride around on his Uncle Kingâs shoulders while heâs working because no one could babysit and Tonks was on a mission with Moody so the Minister of Magic was the only one available, and he doesnât mind at all having the little guy helping him.
Teddy who would try his very best to help his mum with Auror paperwork but get confused and just doodle in the corners of the papers while sitting in Doraâs lap as she scribbled her reports and grinned.
Teddy who Moody just canât get mad at, even when he receives reports with doodles of stick figures and crudely drawn broomsticks. Teddy who isnât afraid of Moody and will trace the scars on his face when Moody is forced to hold him because they remind him of his dad and he loves his dad.
Teddy who morphs his face to look like James whenever he comes over because James likes Transfiguration and praises Teddy for doing such a good impression of him, sneaking him wrapped candy as a reward and whispering colors to Teddy to change his hair into for practice, and because itâs just too entertaining.
Teddy who steals Siriusâ leather coat from where itâs been hung against the back of the couch and pulls it on even though the sleeves and tail drag against the floor and make him look much smaller than he actually is, but Sirius doesnât mind and laughs until heâs crying, and buys Teddy his own jacket for Christmas (his first of many), one that actually fits him. Then gets him matching sunglasses and takes him on motorcycle rides (Tonks thinks itâs awesome, Remus does not).
Teddy who gets on so well with Lily and always ends up with bright, striking red hair when they sit and talk, listening intently as Lily describes the importance of potions to jumpstart his interest in the Wolfsbane potion, always bringing her flowers from the garden because Lily looks pretty with white flowers braided in her hair, they make her look like a fairy.
Teddy who is adored by his father, sitting in Remusâ lap and reading old books or newspapers and falling asleep together, little Teddy using Remusâ chest as a pillow while Remus wraps his arms around Teddyâs little form protectively. Teddy who traces the scars on his dadâs face and arms and says he looks super cool and strong. Teddy who tells everyone his daddy is his hero. Teddy who reaches for Remus before anyone else because Remus is always warm and Teddy likes hugging him, because his dad wears thick sweaters that make the hugs fluffy. Teddy who says heâs going to be just like his dad when he grows up.
Teddy who used to refuse to sleep unless his dad sang him to sleep, because his mum has a nice voice but itâs nothing like the Welsh lullaby his father would coo to him like his mum did once for him.
Teddy whose father is the defense against the dark arts professor at Hogwarts, because the school would be mad to not allow him back after ending the war with such honors. Teddy who always takes time at school to visit Remus and have tea with him every day and would tell everyone proudly that Remus Lupin is his father.
Teddy who hides his crush on James Sirius Potter and just vaguely mentions it to Sirius and Remus saying he thinks he likes boys AND girls, and Sirius being entirely inappropriate about it.
âHey donât worry bud, your dad and I used to shag in seventh year, itâs completely normal for Lupinâs to be bi.â
Teddy Lupin growing up with the Mauraders, Lily, Moody, Harry, Kingsley, all the people he deserved to have when growing up. Not just his mum and dad, but all of them, all the people who would adore him the same as they adored Harry. No, more so, because everyone knew James would have kids eventually.
But Teddy was different, because Teddy was the personification of Remus Lupinâs hope, a future he never thought he deserved, and they would love him because they love Remus.
