I admit I'm in a pretty solid financial situation, though living in a HCOL city, I'm not actually sure how true that is without my partner.
Anyway, I was making more in 2022 at my previous role (not much, but considering my experience and impact between then and now, I think it speaks a lot to the current job market). I just had my yearly compensation discussion, and I should be really grateful because my bonus was really good this year, but I apparently exceeded expectations to the quantification of 165%. And my fucking salary increase was TWO PERCENT. LESS THAN THE RATE OF FUCKING INFLATION.
Despite me pretty much making the org what it is (developing all the workflows for our database backend, creating actual research based standards for studies, taking reports from AI generated slop to actual insights) this is how they treat me. A coworker of mine who started the same day as me, and who got a promotion as he was moved from another job at the same company to this one, has now been promoted fucking again. Is it because he's viewed as more "technical" despite my role being complex and challenging? Because he's a white guy? Probably yes and that fucking pisses me off to no end. I told my manager 6 months ago my next goal was to get promoted and he didn't speak with me about it since, but now he dangles a flimsy promise of "promoting me next year" oh my GOD fuck that shit.
I'm so tired. I'm tired of being apparently a "superstar" but never actually being rewarded for it. I'm tired of arbitrary standards and exceeding everything expected of me and this being my reward. It's fucking disgusting. I'm not meant for this work, and yet I'm forced to participate in it.
