I finished playing Hades 2 and I feel conflicted because I've never played a game that had so many excellent individual pieces, but felt so flat in cohesively executing it's own central theme. It's ending has some emotional stakes, but the wrong kind to reform a villain. Melinoe's doubt over the task is never characterized a way that would prompt players to get onboard with her choice to spare Cronus. There is no "aha" moment in the story that alters the stakes. It would've been phenomenal if after fighting Prometheus or something, Melinoe's decides privately to spare Cronus. Completely altering the dynamic between herself and the rest of the games cast. It could have made her reconcile the fact that the family she is putting back together is deeply dysfunctional and kind of horrible.

The part of the ending that moved me the most was seeing alt universe Melinoe's childhood with everyone in the house of Hades. That had build up, but the rest of the ending did not build to what it initially promised. It just felt like wasted potential. I left disappointed and making up "what if" scenarios in my head.

-The hypermasculinity on display really made me realize how alot of pesudo feminist Greek myth retellings don't even like, properly engage with the specific brand chauvinism that was a cultural normally of ancient greek society. The pesudo feminist lens is uninterested in the setting itself, and more so the idea of the message it could apply overtop it.
