LUCY & THE END ( a wip introduction by d.y. )

she presses her weight down onto the skull, cringing at the wet squelch underneath her boot. slimy black liquid drenched the leaves and earth beneath it and the rest clung to the bottom of her shoe like glue. “gross,” she says, shuddering. 

SYNOPSIS

twenty-seven years ago, the world ended. 

while that is a little bit dramatic, for all intents and purposes it’s the truth. cities were overrun by monsters, hellbent on killing and consuming any human life they came across. it was hell on earth for years. 

once some form of stability was found, humans began to learn to fight back. they began to call these monsters hollows, some chose to study them, others decided they were best dead. lucy would fall into the second category.

after the death of her father, she was left virtually alone. there wasn’t anyone looking to take on the burden of a child and thus lucy ended up on her own. it’s during a near-death encounter with a hollow that she meets her companion and closest friend, jo. she’s a sweetheart of a dog, ready to tear anyone who even seems like a threat to lucy apart. 

and for a while, it’s just them and the whole world is their oyster; everything is going as fine as things during the end of the world could be going until they meet jasper finch. after begrudgingly saving his life, lucy finds herself entangled in his life (and stupid plan to play hero) far more than she ever wanted to be.

hi! i’m doing something a little different this nano. my little cousin recently reminded me of something. a while ago she asked me to tell her a story once and thus the concept for ‘outside these walls’ came into being. i’ve decided to write it out into an actual story for fun + so she can always have it. very cheesy, i know. anyways, my goal is to get at least 20k in it by the end of the month. here’s a little excerpt + all the info for it under the cut :)

Juniper had always prided herself on being the “good” one wherever she went. The good sister, the good student, the good pixie. She was doing a pretty good job at it, if she did say so herself. Which she did, constantly. She lived in the tallest oak tree in the middle of Wild Grove with her four sisters and her mother. It was cramped and there was next to no hope for any kind of privacy but she loved it there nonetheless. 

If only that were enough to fully bottle her true passion: adventure. Technically speaking, she hadn’t exactly been on this grand adventure yet (or any adventure for that matter) but she knew it would all come together one day. It was hard for her to determine when that day would be exactly on account of a few things. 

Her first problem was that she was a terrible flier. One would assume that being born with wings would make you great at using them by default. Juniper was the one assuming and, boy, could she have not been more wrong. 

The second problem was her overprotective (but very loving) mother. Nothing Juniper ever did went unnoticed by her mom despite her having four other kids to look after. Not to mention, Juniper was the baby by default since her actual youngest sister refused to be babied and it was clear her mom had no intention of letting her leave the metaphorical nest any time soon. 

And, finally, her last problem was Scout. He was a boy which was an issue all on its on. But no, Juniper’s problem with Scout lied in the fact that he outright refused to aid her adventurer dreams. He had the know-how, was easily the best flier she’d ever met and he was fully authorized the leave whenever he wanted to. It was extremely unfair that he was out living her wildest dream and he wouldn’t even throw her a crumb. 

So, she had decided, that would soon change.

As soon as they hit the ground, the man cries out in pain and falls on his back. Lucy watches as the hollow retreats, probably realizing it would be a waste of energy to keep hunting them, before she turns around. 

“Just fucking great,” she mutters under her breath. “What the hell were you doing up there, old man?”

“Y-you’re a kid,” is all he says in response, “how? why?”

“I was born that way, I suppose.” Lucy sighs deeply, pinching the bridge of her nose. Jo comes up beside the man, licking the side of his face happily. “Jo, stop. You, get a grip for God’s sake.” He nods and starts sucking in air, a poor attempt at calming himself down. 

“Okay, okay, I’m fine. Just...just tell me who you are?” he asks wearily, his eyes not so subtly following the gun in Lucy’s hands. She’s got half a mind to tell him there’s no bullets inside, but she’s all out of kindness for the day. 

“Name’s Lucy, not that it matters.”

“Nice to meet you, Lucy,” he says with a half smile, “I’m Jasper. Jasper Finch.”

𝐏𝐄𝐑𝐒𝐎𝐍𝐀𝐋𝐈𝐓𝐘: intelligent, curious, friendly, selfless + naive

𝐁𝐀𝐂𝐊𝐒𝐓𝐎𝐑𝐘: jasper was only nine years old when the hollows started to tear the world apart. he was separated from his family and hid away in a bunker for years. soon, he began to feel like a prisoner and ran away with a few like-minded individuals. together, they formed atlas, a safe haven from hollows. and when he loses it all, he vows to find his family and rebuild his home.

Brie rushes Lucy inside, checking her over for any injuries. It was difficult to distinguish anything from the black tar-like blood that covers almost every inch of her. “What the hell happened?” she asks, brows creasing together in a way that made her wrinkles more prominent. 

Lucy bites her tongue to keep from saying anything snarky. After all, it should be pretty damn obvious what happened. “Hollow outside the west gate. It almost got me good,” she answers, peeling her coat off and dropping it carelessly onto the floor. “I’m gonna go get cleaned up.”

“Are you sure it’s good to be alone after what just happened?” Brie asks. Her arms are crossed over her chest and she’s giving Lucy that look usually reserved for her son. Unfortunately, Lucy isn’t in the mood to be mothered. 

“I’m not alone,” she says, reaching down to scratch between Jo’s ears, “I’ve got Jo.” And Brie is opening her mouth, probably to try and tell her that a dog is not a suitable partner. Either way, Lucy doesn’t stick around to listen.

𝐏𝐄𝐑𝐒𝐎𝐍𝐀𝐋𝐈𝐓𝐘: resilient, distrusting, distant, intelligent + quick-tempered

𝐁𝐀𝐂𝐊𝐒𝐓𝐎𝐑𝐘:  lucy has never known anything other than a world filled with hollows. her childhood was spent learning to survive with help from her father and, while unconventional, her childhood was pleasant. after the death of her father, however, she was left with nothing but anger and a hardened heart.

you can call me dione; i am a nineteen year old black bisexual writer just looking to share my projects and interact with other writers more. i’ve been on the fence about making a writeblr for a while and i thought: it’s summer now so what better time to start?

i’ve been writing for about eight years now ( got my start in twilight fan-fiction and now somehow i’m here )

 i am a huge fan of character-driven stories, i’ll read pretty much any genre as long as i like the characters 

writing-wise, i tend to stick to apocalyptic, fantasy && contemporary stories

while novel writing is my go-to, i am also ( attempting to) branch out into script writing and trying to rekindle my love for poetry 

i like to think i’m a pretty neat person, so don’t ever be afraid to shoot me a message about whatever!

LUCY & THE END — a girl and her dog who have been surviving the end of the world meet a man who dreams of more than just getting by. by no small mirical, he manages to convince her to come along. an apocalyptic/fantasy (?) with a budding friendship as the focus. This is pretty much my pride and joy. this is probably the project i’ve devoted the most time toward.

WHEN THE DUST SETTLES — a woman is forced from comfort and safety after her sister decides to run away and join a girl gang. she has no clue how to survive the harsh, unforgiving wastelands but, luckily, she’s got help from a mercenary who would probably rather being doing anything else. a post-apocalyptic western with lesbians and sisterly love.
