I have translated the last couple of scenes of The Greek Interpreter from Granada's "The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes" in English, because I think Melás' absolute pleading and begging of Kratides really adds so much to the scene

(also translated Jeremy's little scene, which was such a darling surprise the first time I saw it! Those words are not easy to pronounce, and yet he killed it!)

Oh, one more neat little fact!

Kratides here writes using the polytonic system (notice the accents above his letters)

The polytonic system was annuled in 1981 in Greece and mid 1982 in Cyprus , where both Kratides' and Melás' actors are from, to give way to the monotonic (we just use thís sort of accent above our words now)

And of course given this was on tv in 1985, it very much is just the way the actor would be used to writing, but I think it's also just a very neat indicator of the time it's set in anyway! Greeks would have used the polytonic system in the late 1800s

(of course he also writes in simplified/laymen's Greek which has a lot of other implications that at the end of the day just come down to the actual actor writing how he's used to, but it's fun to think about anyway!)
