         she  hummed,  mulling  over  his  answer  for  a  moment.

she KNEW it – she knew how he felt about her. she wasn’t being cocky, she wasn’t full of herself – it was like what her mum once told her, all it takes is a LOOK and you could feel it, but this was different. hearing it out loud and watching his gaze light up, it was ELECTRIC. 

“you’re hot–” she teased, easy to credit his looks – it was a given, that he was pretty, an easy observation that anyone could see and what was easily MISSED was his kindness and that loyalty that she knew he possessed, “a bit of this–” finger thumping on his temple - he was way more intelligent than people gave him credit for, she had been one of the few in the mix, easy to look pass the possibility and yet what impressed her more than his wit, was his intelligence and his passion for runes, despite the subject being the bane of her existence – she could listen to him babble about it for hours, “and a whole lot of this–” she admitted, fingers tracing the area above his heart. she knew what he thought of himself – she knew how easy it was to fit into a box that someone made for you, just because you didn’t want to FIGHT, but his kindness and that heart that had no FILTER was what made her walls weak.

peppering kisses along his jaw, “you’re my favourite person to talk too– or well, with the exception of my girls–” she chuckled, fingers still dancing along his shirt as she curled into him, head easily nestling against the crook of his neck, “you’re not just my boyfriend, you’re my friend–” 

his gaze stayed on her as her fingers moved from his temple to his chest, lips curled in a half-smile as he tugged her closer, arms encircling her waist. “ --- wait, you think i’m hot ? ” he asked, eyebrows quirking teasingly. “ --- emmeline vance thinks i’m hot ? ” he caught her hands in his, bringing them to his lips to press a kiss against her knuckles, against her palm. “ --- what, do you LIKE me or something ? ” his mouth moved from her hands to meet her lips in a surprisingly soft kiss, savouring the taste of her mouth against his. “ --- you’re my friend, too. one of my best friends. but don’t tell the guys, they’ll get jealous. ” he brushed a strand of her from her face, tilting his head to look down at her. “ --- love ya, vance. ”

her brows furrowed together as her nose scrunched ever so slightly in confusion, she felt him drawing her closer and with the way he looked at her, she couldn’t help but beam, but it wasn’t until he let it SLIP did her eyes widen and her lips formed the classic O. 

“OH –” her laugh breathless – she felt a tad airy and yet her gaze shone of adoration and she didn’t care, she always thought that she wouldn’t be the one to say it FIRST, that this would be planned and articulate, but one glance at the smile he was sporting and she DIDN’T CARE. it was worth it, his joy made it worth it and as she squished his cheeks in her hands, she nodded with vigour, “i love you –” she repeated, “with you – it’s IMPOSSIBLE not too –” 

lips pressing against his gently as her fingers threaded through his chocolate locks, “thank you –” she added, quiet as her nose nudged his, “for kissing me that day – even when i didn’t think we were worth it, you did. i’ve never had that –” 

“ --- and i was RIGHT, wasn’t i ? if we weren’t worth it -- then, fuck, i don’t know what would be. ” his grin remained stretched across his face, meeting her lips in a kiss, and then another, hands cupping her face, soaking in her laughter and her adoring gaze directed at him -- him. amycus could still remember when she’d sent him to the hospital wing last year with a well-aimed bludger. he’d thought she hated him. merlin, if sixth year him could see them now. he closed the space between their lips once more, just to remind himself that this was really happening. “ --- merlin help me, emme, i LOVE you, ” he breathed, thumbs grazing against her cheeks. “ --- so damn much. ” the words fell from his lips as easily as breathing. amycus had always been the type of boy to speak honestly and openly, damn the consequences, and this was no exception. “ --- how the hell’d i get so lucky ? ”

“i did have quite a bit of FUN –” she admitted, shoving him slightly as he begun to laugh, “you’re terrible –” 

“INTERESTING – so you do have boundaries–” hands cupping his cheeks, her face was pink from the laughter, nearly breathless from how easily jealous he could get, “as much as i love you – babe, lets be honest. i’m pretty AWFUL at it –” recalling the time that she had somehow managed to elbow him right in the ribs while she was manoeuvring over him. she was so lost in her own mishap that she hadn’t even REALIZED what she said. 

“are you hungry? i think i can eat –”

for once in his life, amycus fell quiet. a bemused, wonderstruck smile tugged at his lips. it had been so casual, so unexpected, that he didn’t even know if she’d noticed she’d said it. he almost hadn’t noticed. love. it had snuck up on both of them. he coughed, slightly, raising his eyebrows at her with an expression that could be called a smirk if it hadn’t been so unabashedly jubilant. “ --- awful at loving me ? ” his arms wrapped around her, pulling her close to him so his lips grazed hers. “ --- oh, i dunno. i think you’re doing a pretty fuckin’ AMAZING job. ”

“ --- yeah, we fucked before we even liked each other. ”

“ I am the picture of grace and vitality, amycus, and I look far better when you’ve got your mouth shut, “  alecto said. the look she was giving her brother was mutinous. not hungover but sure as hell pissed. she slung herself around in her seat until her legs were stretched in front of her, ankles crossed underneath her brother’s seat next to her. she didn’t care if it forced any other late arrivals to hop over her legs; it made it easier to continue in a hushed tone,  “ someone couldn’t bother with a lumos when they came in from their night and I swear they only knocked over all of my shit. my morning routine was shot. I feel like a mere mortal. “

“ --- wow, thought ravenclaws were supposed to be smart, ” amycus commented, ignoring his sister’s look. he’d done enough dumb things and said enough dumb things that he was used to it by now. “ --- even i know not to fuck up your morning routine. otherwise you could probably turn people to STONE with a stare. ” much like the one she was giving him right now, actually.

“ --- sorry i thought you were a gryffindor prefect. dunno why you got so offended, though. i’m not a prefect, and i’m not in gryffindor, so how would i know ? ”

“ — sorry for cutting your hair in your sleep that one time in fourth year when you made fun of my haircut. looking back, that was kind of a dick move. still think you didn’t have to tell lucinda i still wet the bed, though. bit of an overreaction. ”

“you let me belt out an entire song?” gaze narrowing for a second, “so the stripping, did you let me have some fun with that too or can i live with the comfort of knowing that the school doesn’t know what i look like half-ass naked?” 

“ --- don’t blame me, you were having fun, ” he defended himself, lips curving in a laugh despite his professed promise. “ --- with the karaoke, not the stripping. weirdly enough, i didn’t really want half the school getting a strip tease from MY girlfriend. ”
