My name's Amber, and welcome to my art blog! I'm a digital artist who dabbles in traditional when the mood strikes me, while navigating uni and using art as an escape from all the coursework.

Lu was one of the first characters of NoTW that I designed that had a more permanent consequence of magic. It was what I wanted to do with the magic system overall - have people literally disabled when they learn magic. But I hadn't been too sure how to implement it at first, until I was doodling one day and did a character whose eyes were replaced by water.

I am still figuring out Lu's role in the story, as she's more connected to Akhema than she is the MC at the moment. I want to allow more paths that explore Lu, though I don't know if I want her to be a potential companion on the MC's journey. But! Either way! Still one of my favorite designs as well ^^

Now when I say this, I swear I'm not biased by the name. But this is so far my favorite design I've done for this project. I had a lot of fun drawing her more bat-like features and her color pallete was so pleasing to work with.

A character with this fun of a design shouldn't be a random background character skshdjdhdgdgs

It's Art Fight season and while I'm not participating this year myself, I was reminded that Toyhouse exists and thought it would be fun/a good idea to start working on putting my OCs there. Either updating existing posts or create all new ones. Really for organization's sake, but! I feel like it will help me keep better track of names and such as well for my larger projects (namely NotW) that have dozens of OCs and will likely exceed over 100

Anywho! I wanted to start off with doing Akhema's, despite them not having a page yet on Toyhouse, because I just really love their design. They were the first design for NotW I really made and it's super fun to draw

First rito of the project!! Amali was really fun to draw, although I will fully admit my brain struggles atm to really understand rito anatomy. I'll luckily be getting more practice with this project ^^

Request I did for my bestie, @tacochippy ^^ They always have such fun designs for ocs and I get super excited to draw them when I can. This is featuring their ocs Skullina and Melora in a pose they made with some posing figures ^^

So.... did anyone else ever ship Alfur and Alvin? ... no? Just me? Genuinely though he was fun to draw!!! I'm a sucker for blue aesthetics and when the elves are so simple like him and Alfur, it's just fun because it's most of their design.

Unlike Alfur I did give him sleeves! Small difference but I feel like it fits

This is the 10th time I've made this drawing in 6 years, and honestly I think this was the most fun I've had doing it since the first time. After I was done, it was really interesting to see how my art style has changed. From rendering, my understanding of anatomy (which still sucks but at least it looks a little more proper now lol), to how I apply lines and color.

And then there's the drawing itself - Evanna's design has changed numerous times, and so has details within the background. I actually forgot previous drawings only had a silhouette of the mountains. And the tree has changed size every drawing lol

ANYWAYS! I had a blast, got a lil emotional thinking about how long Evanna has existed, and I'm itching to do more fully rendered drawings cause this has lowkey revitalized my motivation.

And so we're back with the new drawings! They're similar enough I think to how I was doing them before, but I've found myself finishing them faster and trying new coloring techniques. Also introducing the brush I nornally use for shading because I think that looks a little better.

As for Alvin... I'll be totally honest, as much as I love HTTYD I still have not watched Riders/Defenders of Berk. They're on my list! But alas, I am too broke right now and before I was just drained by work T-T

From what I read on his character though, he seems like an interesting antagonist!

I really love how swoopy Evanna's hair is, like. Idk. Drawing her helps get me out of art block bc I can just turn my brain off

All the elves from Hilda are genuinely so fun to draw - I'm glad later on they introduced more designs than just the white near-stick figures.

My two farmers have been rotating in my brain a great deal lately. Especially Arapaima and his relationship with Alex. So! Did some really loose sketch pages to get some of those thoughts out (plus the brain was not putting words to paper and when that happens, drawing breaks are very necessary ^^)

And then Sour Patch's relationships - I really need to write one focusing on it and Mr. Qi's relationship, cause I imagine it as something extremely toxic but that Sour Patch doesn't really realize, because Qi's just intense and SP is usually the intense one in any dynamic

Bringing back this project!! This and the next one were drawn in December 2024, but after that will be all new references ^^

This came out angstier than I intended it to. I was going to do a drawing if Destri's statue in Wendeklog, actually, which I already had a very rough sketch of for my worldbuilding class last semester. But then I got it into my head to draw instead what she actually looked like in the moment her statue depicts.

Unintentional aspect of NoTW I've come to realize is how much characterization I need to do for characters that might get mentioned in the storyline. Case in point: Destri (name from the word destrier, meaning warhorse. She wanted to be a healer)
