Hi so this is the third chapter of the book that I'm writing. Please read and tell me what you think.
First chapter :The Capture - Hale
Previous chapter: The Capture- Ezryn
I’m Nyx. Somethings about me, my favorite color is purple, I love to party, and my family doesn’t appreciate the last fact. I’ve never met a rule not worth breaking. There are consequences to my actions, {sure} but I’ve never experienced them. My parents always said my luck would run out one day. This day was the day my parents were proven right. This day was the day it all changed. This day was just my luck or unluck day.
Today started like any other Saturday. Hung over as ever. Getting up I went to the sink in an attempt to wash off the leftover mascara and makeup {I looked like a raccoon} before my parents could see. My headache didn’t need to be worsened by a lecture over how partying isn’t good, or how I should study like my brother. I had success of course.
I got dressed in my best “I’ve been asleep for hours” pajamas. To go downstairs for breakfast. The cook made my brother's favorite (my least favorite) food for breakfast, poached eggs. The runnyness was too much for me. Also isn't it gonna give you salmonella or something. I begrudgingly ate in and headed back upstairs. My phone was buzzing with notifications from my friends slowly waking up, one by one. I silenced it. They wouldn’t expect me to awake for a few hours anyway. I decided to go to the cafe in order to get some good coffee and have some time alone, well not alone, but at least away from judgement.
I started getting ready. My favorite part of going anywhere. I had tangles like crazy in my hair. The knots were all over each of the different colors. I dyed it myself using boxed dye and bleach. The combination led to a bad smelling bathroom for a few hours, but was so worth it. After all the tangles were successfully removed I was able to start my braiding. The braids landed around my armpits. I had perfected my skill to land them perfectly even. After hair clothes. I picked out a tube top partnered with some high waisted jeans. Next make up. I applied a full face of makeup in a matter of seconds. My parents always say that it is important to look your best. However we had an extremely big difference on what the best really was.
I got my laptop in my little tote and headed out to the coffee shop. My parents stopped me before I reached the stairs. “Where do you think you're going to dress like THAT?” My dad gestures at my tube top.
“To the coffee shop.” I didn’t lie, that didn’t change the fact that he thought I was.
“SURe. According to your brother there's a party at Elania's house.” My dad crossed his arms.
“Just because there is a party doesn’t mean that I’m going.”
My dad snorted. Then pointed up the stairs. “NOW.”
I went begrudgingly. I went into my room. The same room that shares a wall with my brothers. I took a speaker and blasted the music I knew he hated against the wall. No doubt interrupting one of his “Study sessions”. That brat played the role of a perfect child so perfectly my parents had no idea that he was the one behind the money laundering.
“SHUT IT NYX!!” my brother screamed over the music in a futile attempt to get me to stop his torture.
“I can’t hear you.” I sang to the tune of my music.
My dad called my phone. It stopped the music from playing.
“What do you want?” I answered.
“Nyx get down this instant.” A chill ran down my spine. The way he spoke left no room for argument. I had no clue what was about to happen, but there was one thing for sure: if I didn’t go down now, all hell would break loose. I ran down the stairs. There was a cop at the bottom of them. I halted in my tracks half way down the stairs. The only law I broke recently was drinking. Nothing that bad. I mean not really worth a follow up call if you ask me.
“Nyx Quinn you’re under arrest." The cop walked up the stairs. With a click metal encircled my wrists. The cop yanked gruffly. Making me trip down the stairs.
I did what I always do. Something unexpected, to keep them on their toes. “Easy off the cuffs. Sheeesh. I’m not gonna run, I swear.”
The cop gave no reaction. He just continued his escort.
“I mean do you at least have another color? I don’t look good in silver. It doesn’t go well with my skin.”
We reached a dark black car.
“I’m more of a warm tone anyway.”
They took off my cuff. “Finally thanks for nothing.” and shoved me into the car, almost hitting my leg with the door as it swung shut “HEY!!”. I got up and placed myself on the empty row of seats. Across from me were two individuals. They seemed odd enough. They didn’t look like the type to get arrested. The girl looked too smart for it and the dude looked like he didn’t have the guts.
The two of them stared at me.
Time to break the silence, might as well speak first. “Not what you were expecting. Did you want me to be a little more boring? I would, but I have better things to do.”
The dude smiled slightly. “My name's Hale. What's yours?”
“Nyx. Do you guys know why you're here? All I got was that I was arrested.” Lets see if they know more than me.
Both of them shook their heads.
I signed. Now lets make some conversation. “Anyways. How long is this drive gonna be?”
“They don’t tell us anything.” Hale responded.
“Well then better make myself comfortable.” Time for chaos. The entertaining sort. I proceeded to lie on my seat all the way. “I don’t know about you, but I have like a one person play so I have to memorize Romeo's many monologues. If you wish, you may be my Juliet." I held out my hand to Hale.
“Or would you like to be my Juliet?" I held out my other hand.
Hale looked at the girl. “Ezryn I insist I would much rather watch this tale unfold.”
“All right.” The girl, Ezryn, responds. “Which act do you want to start with?”
“You chose.” I wasn’t expecting her to bite. I pegged her as a quiet type.
“Act 3 scene 5. I’ll start. ‘Wilt thou be gone? It is not yet near day. It was the nightingale, and not the lark, that pierced the fearful hollow of thine ear. Nightly she sings on yond pomegranate tree. Believe me, love, it was the nightingale.’” She spoke quietly, controlled. She used a slight accent.
“‘It was the lark, the herald of the morn, No nightingale. Look, love, what envious streaks do lace the severing clouds in yonder east. Night’s candles are burnt out, and jocund day Stands tiptoe on the misty mountain-tops. I must be gone and live, or stay and die.’” I recited with Bravatio. Utilizing a thick british accent along with overly exaggerated hand gestures. Earring a snort from Hale. If they like you they’ll trust you.
We finished out the scene. I grew tired. I couldn’t have slept for more than 5 hours last night. “I’m gonna take a quick snooze.” I closed my eyes and went to sleep thinking about some of the chaos I could start in the car. I woke up at what couldn’t have been more than thirty minutes later. I had a plan. A plan for chaos. It’ll be entertaining, sure, but more of the chaotic type.
I rose suddenly. “Ready for a bit of Chaos.”
Ezryn looked at me first, her eyebrow raised slightly.
“Let’s not.” Hale spoke first.
“You haven’t even heard of my master plan.” I smirked. My goal was to cause as many inconveniences as possible for the guards, but nothing that would get us into too much trouble.
Ezryn smiled slightly, probably imagining the things I had in store. Hale just gave a definitive stare like that of a parent trying to control their children.
“We should just, you know, play a game?” I fluttered my eyes with a sweet innocent smile on my face.
“You too can but I’m out.” Ezeyn spoke with a wide smile on her face. “Please do it though. I can’t wait to watch.”
“Do what?” Hale looked between me and Ezryn trying to figure out what he missed.
Ezryn's eyes widened slightly and her smile faded.
I changed the topic to save the girl from her obvious discomfort. “You know what, I’m gonna call you Ezi.” I directed the comment at Ezryn. I had been trying to figure out something fun to call her.
“Alright.” Her smile returned, slightly smaller.
“Ok anyways, back to my master plan. We should play a game where we sing a song and stop, then the next person has to pick up another song with a lyric starting with the last word. Don’t worry, it gets worse. Until the next player can think up a lyric you have to hold out the word.” I was ready for pure chaotic distraction. This would only be annoying to the guards if they could hear us, but they probably could to ensure we weren't plotting to overthrow the government. “So do we wanna play.”
“This sounds like a bad idea.” Hale gave me a stern look, but he didn’t actually say no
“So you in or out?” I really hoped he was in.
“Out, but we could play another game.” Hale suggested. “We could play the alphabet game. Where you look outside of the windows and find words that start with the letter.”
I can find a way to make it chaotic. “Alright lets play. Are we on the same team or survival of the fittest?”
At the same time Erzyn answered. “Survival of the fittest.”
“Rock paper scissors dual.” I yelled at the top of my lungs. I had one goal after all, to be as annoying as possible. Both of them shrugged and assumed the position. “Rock PAper SCIssors SHOOOT.” Hale played paper while Ezryn played rock. I grabbed Hale’s hand and held it in the air. “WINNER. Guess we're playing as a team.”
I put Hale’s had down, as I needed my hands to cup my mouth for dramatic affect. “ARE YOU READY KIDS?”
“Aye Aye captain.” Hale responded begrudgingly.
“AYE AYE Captain.” Hale yelled. Ezryn just watched, mildly confused.
“OK for real. The game starters In 3 2 1.” I started the game abruptly.
“All” Ezryn got the first word. Quickly followed by the second. “Buffet” then “Can”
I nominated myself as the sports announcer. “Ezi gives the team a good start with not one, not two, but three words right off the bat.”
“Desil.” Hale got the fourth.
“Hale makes a nice pick finally coming in with the fourth word.”
We continued this game as we got to a rural town. There were fewer buildings here. The letters found were getting fewer and farther between, but I made sure there wasn’t a moment of silence with my excellent announcing skills.
We stopped near a forest/woodsy area. Both Hale and Ezryn stopped looking around. I decided to break this silence, but not in a normal way. I stretched my legs going into a split covering the entire row of seats. Ezryn's eyes stayed fixed on the forest.
Hale however looked at me. “What are you doing?”
“You know, just stretching. What do you think about doing something fun with the newcomer?” I gave one of my best wicked grins.
“Don’t do anything mean.” Hale crossed his arms.
“I would never. I prefer to be a menace to society, not to specific people. Thank you very much.” This was true. I acted silly as a way to make people laugh and sure the boring ones were going to be exasperated, but I tried to not offend people. The car door opened revealing a tall well built guy. I started my bit, crossing my arms and spoke in an over the top deep voice. “Well well well who do we have here?”
