Sleep Deprived

It was really so great to see you.

It has really been a long time.

how I could hardly look into your eyes.

We had some great conversations.

I think you even apologized.

I am sorry, too,

for the way I was back then.

Apparently, as it seems,

it just really wasn't our time.

Lying here awake,

you right by my side.

We have both come a long way

since only last July.

You said that you've been fighting demons, and thus, you're sleep deprived.

I told you that I would stick around,

so maybe you'll find some peace,

if only for the night.

Now you are lying next to me,

snoring and out like a light.

One thing led to another,

even though I swore to myself

that I would not give in.

Your lips touched mine,

and all but that moment

was so easily forgotten just then.

Lying here awake,

you right by my side.

We have both come a long way

since only last July.

We held each other tightly

until you drifted off to sleep.

Now I am battling those demons

yet genuinely glad that I was able to help you get some rest and peace.

The sun will be up soon,

and we will go our separate ways.

But we will always have that moment and bittersweet memories;

may the sweetness never fade.
