UPDATE
Sexism in the work place is real. I work as an athletic trainer in a physical therapy clinic with another female AT. Apparently a patient complained to one of our doctors/owners of clinic that one of our athletic trainers (i.e. one of the two of us) looked like we just rolled out of bed and came to work. It was also implied that it was a man that made this complaint. Because of this and the fact that we "can't have patients complaining like this or noticing things like this" it has been made office policy that we trainers have to look like the receptionists from the neck up (i.e. hair done nice and makeup done). Two problems I have with this..One: it bothers me that one of us, although working really hard at our job and being good at what we do, gets complained about to not just a doctor but the OWNER of the business as if us just not being nice to look at somehow affected our ability to do our job. Two: it bothers me that it has been made office policy to "look pretty" because ONE patient (a man) complained that we didn't look nice. If anything, the doctors should have been in our corner and backed us up, even if it meant losing the business of one patient. Why would we even want a patient that lets something as petty as that affect his experience? This is the kinda shit that gets me FIRED THE FUCK UP. So what if one of us just rolled out of bed, put our hair in a messy bun and came to work? We still did our job, and did it fucking well. We put the patients first, even if they are sexist assholes. Putting on makeup and doing our hair adds an extra hour onto our time getting ready in the morning. Yet, a guy can literally just wake up and roll out of bed and go to work and not get shit about it. IM OVER THIS SHIT!!
