Yes. Even ESO. I somehow ended up in Coldharbor today, and talked to some Soul Shriven.

So I’ve been playing this little Morrowind mod called The Doors of Oblivion lately, and holy crap, let me tell you. 

So far I’ve been to Clavicus Vile’s Realm, Apocrypha, The Soul Cairn, The Shivering Isles, The Colored Rooms, The Misty Grove (and about three other of Sanguine’s pleasure pockets), The Deadlands, Quagmire, and Coldharbor! And I’m not even close to done! I also found a deactivated portal to The Ashpit that I’m trying to figure out how to activate!

On top of that, I have so far personally encountered Sheogorath, Meridia, Vaermina, Clavicus Vile and Barbas. And I know that I’m probably going to encounter all the other Princes here as soon as I start playing again. Let me tell you, it’s weird encountering hostile Golden Saints in the Grazelands after having multiple conversations with them in the Shivering Isles.

Oh and also, I went on a quest for Meridia to reclaim Dawnbreaker, and I swiped the Staff of Corruption, some of Vaermina’s Torpor, and a copy of The Dreamstride out from under Vaermina’s nose. I have found books from, I think, literally every single game so far. I keep finding easter eggs everywhere! Even from the smaller games like Battlespire and Redguard! 

My only complaint is that I can’t take my companions with me because all the environments count as interior cells, so I can’t teleport Julan, Constance, or Jasmine to me with their telepathy items. Honestly, it’s worth it though.

My roommate actually walked into the living room (where I have my computer) and thought I was playing Oblivion for a second!

And! And! I ran across Ruma Camoran, Mankar Camoran’s daughter six frickin’ years before the start of the Oblivion Crisis! And swiped her Mythic Dawn robes!

That’s precisely WHY people are so endeared to them. Morrowind is rather unique because the game’s mechanics aren’t just unexplained to you, but the world itself is. 

You’re dumped into a strange alien environment, your first view of a town is a swampy town with a giant ass bug parked outside it. Why is there a bug? Fuck you outlander, everyone knows what the bug is for, you stupid ignorant n’wah. What’s an n’wah? Well fuck you again, everyone knows what an n’wah is, you s’wit. See, everyone else but you knows what these things are, they’re not gonna tell you, it’s up to you to figure it out. Just like it’s up to you to gain the trust and respect of the local dunmer.

Morrowind and the dunmer are not things that are welcoming. They are hostile, their ways seem commonplace to them but are alien to you. And that’s ultimately what makes it so rewarding and immerses players, because Morrowind is utterly devoted to its idea that all this weird shit is exactly the way the world works. There’s no time when someone stops, looks at the camera, and goes “Hey look at this weird bug, it’s weird right?”. No, the bug isn’t weird, the bug is the thing people use to get to work.
