descendants 3 is crazy cause it opens with the VKs surrounded by propaganda posters of themselves singing a propaganda song about how they should be proud to be from the garbage prison island but also the whole point of why they're there is to take people off into the "good" land so that they can have objectively better lives and they never seem to realize that they and Ben are just shills for the ideas that are still being made into law by the previous generation of rulers but with a shiny coat of "no it's progressive now cause we're letting some isle folks over" paint and when Hades and Uma point blank inform them of this point multiple times throughout the film they are reluctant and Mal is straight up refusing to believe it and has convinced herself that closing the barrier was her idea and hers alone. they only change their minds when Hades does a good thing that he 100% did not need to do to deserve uhhhh humane living conditions. but at least they open the barrier and the people who deserve to live in the sunny land of auradon can do so, right? and then they still go back to visit their abusive parents at the end.
