i've been wondering if im fictionkin for a long time now. how do i figure it out? i see this character and i think "that's me" but maybe i just relate to him a lot or im projecting or something. im not a very empathetic person but sometimes it's like im feeling what he would've felt you know? sorry for rambling or if it doesn't make sense im just confused & this seemed like a good place.
this was meant to be posted december 11th. plain text under cut.
We can't tell you definitively if you're fictionkin, but I can give you ways that I've personally found out I'm fictionkin
- studying scenes, do you share feelings with this character and/or react in the same/similar ways ?
- when it comes to fanart do you get feelings different from other ways, like do your internal feelings shift from how they would normally looking at fanart ?
- do you have headcannons of this character that reflect you
- do you experience any sort of dysphoria/euphoria surrounding them ? does it feel like you miss people from that media, like you should be there. if you cosplay, you or others refer to you as that character experiencing euphoria
Euphoria is the biggest indicator in my opinion, if you think you identify as that character then you could try going by their name, dressing similarly and/or cosplaying them, talking about events in the media as if they're your memories, and then compare your feelings from these to others who are fictionkin and their experiences--but keeping in mind that these are not definite and that even if you don't share experiences with them then you can still be fictionkin.

Is there a term/label for kinning a character's physical form and powers but not their personality, memories, ect? Like fictionkin but just their form and powers? Not completely them?
plain text under cut.
im actually unsure of a term that fits that. the only thing i can think of is possibly some form of fluctuation between fictionkin and -hearted / synpath. I'm aware theres a term for a being whose identity fluctuates between identification as and identification with but i can't remember it or find any information for it.
what i recommend is posting in communities to see if anybeing has coined a term for it, coining your own term, or going to a blog that does coining posts.
life update and plain text under cut. please feel free to correct me if i said anything wrong !
i apologize for how late this response is. ive had stuff go on irl but im working towards more regular posts. im also about to make a banner for this account , reddo the intro , and possibly do a small rebrand. please still feel free to send asks while im doing this.

What are some ways of being alterhuman without identifying as nonhuman? Most of the definitions I've seen of non-otherkin/therian alterhumans still involve stuff like otherlinking or otherhearted, which still identify with creatures even if somebody isn't identifying as them.
Off the top of my head, the only other one I know of is plurality but I'll admit that I have mixed feelings on it being included in the definition
There's a multitude of ways, fictionkin are the most prominent we can think of. There are therians and otherkin who still identify as human along with their non-human identities, demihumans/demikin who partially still identify as humans. Plurality is one, even if debated on if it should be included or not it challenges the "average" human experience/is beyond that that is "traditionally human"; which is the definition of being alterhuman. Musickin, objectkin, plantkin, conceptkin, who still identify as human with their other identities. Shapeshifters who still identify as human on some level.
hello everybeing , I have a handful of asks in my inbox and--while I encourage them to continue coming--due to school right now I will not be able to answer anything until sometime next week.
I apologize for this but once I am able to take on another thing I will be back to posting here. I hope everybeing has a wonderful rest of the week !

the original question asked:
1. what does it mean to be transspecies?
2. how do I know if I am transspecies ?
3. how is it different from a kintype?
!! not the exact quote, reworded for formatting
1. Being transspecies is the identification as a species other than human, and can imply the desire and/or action of transitioning into it, sometimes used synonymously with therianthropy and otherkinnity. A lot of beings also simply use transspecies over another label as it's just the first one they learned, similar to some beings using theriomythic instead otherkin, or were instead of therian
2. Being transspecies is your own self discovery, comparing feelings to other transspecies beings. I personally found out through my wish to be socially viewed as canine, I already used the label of "therian" but i wanted to be fully viewed as canine on all levels to everybeing. But also keep in mind that beings who experience these feelings do not have to use the label of transspecies -- or any label if they don't want it.
3. Being transpeces isn't much different -- or different at all -- from a kintype, a beings true species is the species they identify as, as a kintype is what an alterhuman identifies as. The only differentiation is a beings preference of terms.
Being transspecies implies but does not definitionaly require and/or mean :
- A want to transition and/or the action of transitioning as much as possible
- Correlating ones gender and species identity (for a multitude of reasons)
- A more politically charged label, and in turn giving a more politically direct statement about a beings species
- Specifically being nonhuman, as opposed to being human and nonhuman
two flags for transspecies beings, the ursa minor one is preferred as it holds the symbol but both are for transspecies beings.
and here are both symbols. flags and symbols provided from here

I would politely protest that transspecies doesn't necessarily include desire or intent to transition either, in the same way that transgender doesn't. It tends to imply that more than otherkin does, but I've met plenty of transspecies people who don't intend to physically transition. As much as people don't like this answer, there really is no hard denotative difference between transspecies and otherkin; the only differences are connotational - ie, transspecies tends to imply, but does not necessarily mean, one or more of the following:
a) wanting to directly compare and connect one's experiences of species and gender identity (often in direct protest to either people refusing to take their species identity as seriously and/or people claiming that the idea of being transspecies/otherkin is "disrespectful" to transgender people (which of course is really just the former statement in a woke hat))
b) a more political bent and making an intentional political statement with the words one chooses to identify oneself with
c) intent or desire to transition physically as much as is possible with modern medicine, and/or
d) specifically not being human (as opposed to being both nonhuman and human).
In my experience at least, the first is by far the most common reason I see people use the word transspecies for themselves. It's also worth noting that some older nonhumans use the word transspecies simply because that's the word they started with, the same way some people still use the term "were" instead of "therian".
Interesting list of links on the topic here, for further reading for anyone interested!

!! THIS POST IS OUTDATED please refer to here I am leaving this up for archival purposes , please disregard statements of transspecies meaning a being wants / plants to transition on this post.

hello!! i've been doing research on alterhuman labels since i've been questioning my identity, and im curious: is there a label that's like, conceptkin but as otherlink? in which you choose to identify as a concept, basically ig; conceptlink maybe? does that exist?? i just haven't found anything about it!
absolutely !! conceptlink would just be the voluntary identification as a concept.
even if the term hadn't been coined yet its still a valid identity. Plus taking the term of "link" with the prefix of your identity would already count as coining it.
Is it possible to be a creature that doesn't exist? As in, I mostly know how it would look like based on what I feel from phantom shifts but no creature in existence or in fiction that I'm aware of matches the image and behavior.
oh absolutely !! you could be general creature kin , oc kin , some sort of fiction kin of some barely known source or a heavily canon divergent kin.
theres genuinely no limit to how or what you can identify as as an alterhuman
Species dysphoria, what is it? Why does it matter ?
Active links + screen reader friendly under cut
Species dysphoria is a general discomfort, distress, or even pain that comes with a perceived mismatch from a being's internal identity to their external identity; alternatively also being defined as the varying levels of unhappiness with one's physical body in relation to an alterhuman identity. Species dysphoria can be genuinely crippling for some, compare it to gender dysphoria, being unable to have the body of your internal and integral identity can be incredibly depressing and even disabling for so many beings. Species dysphoria is a subject – that while discussed and somewhat widely known – is something that can get confusing or get complicated to understand for some.
Some beings follow their species dysphoria with transition, whether physical or social aspects. There aren’t many ways to medically transition so many beings settle for small things: teeth implants, hormones for bodily changes, tattoos. Many socially transition through wearing gear, being openly their species, changing their name or using neopronouns, dressing as their kintypes. Transitioning is still a limited thing, but many beings find packs that accept them, helping with the social dysphoria that comes with not being perceived as their species. And many don't transition, it's just a coming to terms with the fact that they can't be "fully" their kintype, "My sense of dysphoria varies, it can be as high as 8 or as low as 3, but there’s always a sense of wrongness. I spent many a “dark night of the soul” begging God to give me the right body – it took a long time to accept that this hairless ape shell was who I am." [https://aninterviewwithbearx.carrd.co/]
Medically, this is unrecognized. Being as alterhumanity – specifically therianthropy, otherkinnity, transspecies, or any beings that identify as something other than a non-fictional human – is still widely seen as a mental disorder and something that shouldn’t be “played into.” Many beings hope for the ability for surgeries or hormones to become “fully” their kintypes, but it would be practically impossible for that – though more surgeries for more animalistic traits could possibly, and hopefully, be developed.

Genuine questions, what's the difference between otherhearted and synpath? How can someone tell if they are either of those or if they just relate to the character, animal, etc.?
The difference between -hearted folk and synpaths is basically non existent. I feel like the biggest "diffrence" is that -hearted folk tend to explain it as a familial connection, while synpaths generally don't have the familial connection.
The original coiner of synpath wasn't aware of the term -hearted. Some beings use the two terms interchangeably, other see them as similar but different identities.
Sometimes its hard to tell if youre -hearted or a synpath vs just relating. My biggest tell between the two is a gut feeling, or "does this being affect and influence my identity/do I feel kin to this being OR do I just relate to them." You don't have to know right away, its a personal journey, experiment with identity, be "wrong."

I've heard of the term demikin but I'm not fully sure what it means. Could you explain it?
of course ! Demi-kin, or half-kin, are beings who partially identify as their kintype, apposed to fully embracing and identifying. Typically used to express a partial identity.
this term holds a very close definition to "demi-human," despite having a few differences. Demi-kin hold the middle ground--the balance of being human but also not--while demi-human folk are a hybrid, a mix of the humanity and animalistic parts. demi-kin is the still separate but mix, demi-human is the mix.
Demi-kin folk tend to hold a close relationship with their humanity, valuing their humanity and human experiences the same as their animal experiences. While some beings argue that demi-kin are just "regular old otherkin," that isn't completely true. The experiences of demi-kin folk have most definitely existed before the coining of the term, they're wasn't always the label for it. If a being wants to use the label, then let them. Your personal bias shouldn't affect how a being wants to label themselves. The label is also used by folk who feel like they need to hold a distinction from those who fully identify as their kintype.
a flag found on the demi-kin wiki page, the source isn't listed. more sources under the cut. Some information was gathered from reddit threads and personal conversations.
Demihuman, alternatively written as 'demi-human,' refers to a being that is characterized by a combination of human and nonhuman qualities.
Demikin, also known as halfkin, refers to individuals within the alterhuman community who identify partially as another species or a fiction
