Hey, bud! I saw the fanart you drew before you sent me this ask! It’s cute! The fic in question that they’re talking about. Like I said on that fic, I’ve actually never played Echoes of Wisdom. I think I’ll just ramble for this; so I’m sorry if you wanted a story 😓 It’s kinda hard for me to write a story for a game I’ve never played. Sorry if I get anything wrong, I’m just rambling about what I know about the game through internet osmosis. Sorry for the delay for getting to answering this!

I’d assume they’d met the Reader who’s like Echoes of Wisdom Link in a similar fashion that the Chain had met each other. Like through the portals that the Shadow/Dark Link summons and such. The current members of the Chain have probably been together for several months now. Maybe they met the Reader once it was getting close to a year since the current group formed. Reader either hopped out of the portal or the Chain came to the Reader’s era.

Either scenario would be a minor surprise for the Chain. They probably thought they weren’t going to meet another Link with how long they’d all been traveling together. Nor did they expect to be in an era that none of them recognized for the first time in ages.

Heck, maybe the Chain arrives during the middle of the events of Echoes of Wisdom. They would probably be a bit surprised to see dark magic rifts everywhere. Those rifts could swallow anything up. Whether that be a part of the environment, a monster, or even a person. They had encountered that by seeing a rift open up right underneath a random traveler’s feet. The traveler’s screams eventually faded, but they never heard that person land. How deep were these rifts?

Maybe the Chain helps Zelda, who had to do hero stuff in the Reader’s stead. None of the Chain aren’t that surprised to see Zelda do this. Some of their Zeldas were courageous to fight alongside them against evil and Ganon. They did find the power of the Tri Rod fascinating. It could effortlessly make a copy of multiple things, the copies being dubbed as ‘echoes’.

It could make echoes of furniture such as beds, which the Chain had found to be amusing. They could even be stacked up on top of each other as platforms to scale cliffs! They found it convenient for camping outside; no more sleeping on bedrolls!

It could even make echoes of water too. It was oddly cube shaped, much like a crate. Much like beds, it could be stacked.

What surprised them the most was that it could make echoes of monsters. The monsters were friendly, they would help Zelda fight and ferry her around through the air. Friendly monsters were a rather rare sight across the many eras of Hyrule.

In one of the rifts, they’d found the Reader trying to fight off Ganon. The Chain and Zelda helped of course. When they defeated Ganon, they expected that they’d need to seal him away like usual. Ganon suddenly dispersed into a cloud of dark magic. Then the cloud of dark magic had possessed Reader!

It was a shock to see a Dark/Shadow Link be born through possession rather than being just a monster created by Ganon. Overtime, they managed to free Reader from the possession. They all together then defeated Null, which got rid of the rifts and freed people who’d been stuck in them. Reader decides to join the Chain on their journey, much to Zelda’s dismay. She wanted Reader to stay, she could see how what had happened to them had changed them and she wanted them to stay here to relax.

But they had made their decision, they wanted to help the Chain. Like I said in the fic, they’re mute much like Link, using sign language and writing to communicate. They were a skilled fighter like they all were, but they wanted to know more about them. They knew not to pry much because Reader would get more closed off when they did. Not like that was anything new because even the Chain hid secrets from each other.
