When my band, “Mary’s Birthday,” released our “Quite Contrary” EP back in the day, we recorded a 30-second radio promo for it. Having zero budget, we did our own voiceovers, except for the announcing talents of our friend, the famous (or infamous?) DJ Mike Halloran. All the record stores mentioned are long gone, but the radio spot lives on.

This is my grandmother performing on a live radio show recorded in 1958 at WKOW in Madison, Wis., where she was program director. The show was a “Poliothon” for the March of Dimes. She was 57 at the time. What a treasure!
